I searched through the 200 section and the Radio/Navigation section and unfortunately couldn't find what I was looking for. Does anyone have install pictures or "best practices" for where they installed their main unit and displays? Trying to find ideas on where I should mount this thing that makes sense....

I installed the same radio. The main unit is in the back under one of the panels to my ARB drawers and the head unit is on a Ram mount in the front. I actually swapped the headunit and tablet mount positions as that worked out beeter. It is attached to a Ram mount bar that comes up from the seat floor bolt

BTW I am running a Comet SBB-5NMO 2M/70cm Dual Band Mobile Antenna antenna

and the below ant mount

antenna location is on the mount. This is the only one I could find that would fit. The run is up the top of the hatch and over to the trim and then run down below the side trim

Then wiring between the head unit and main unit

I know this post is over a year old, but here's my install recently to help future inquiries in installing FTM-400. Installed mine in the sunglasses cubby of LC HE. I took down that overhead center console and drilled two holes from the backside, one bigger for the cable and another smaller to bolt the faceplate and velcro behind the faceplate. Velcro just to prevent the faceplate from rotating due to its off-center GPS antenna sitting in a convex backing. I'll post a separate thread for the details. But here's the end positioning.

That looks slick. If I wasn’t putting switches there it would be a good option for me, I’ll be going with a A-Pilar mount instead. Where did you mount your PTT?

Have you tested the ability of the GPS to pick up signal despite being cradled under the roof? Curious, as I would expect that to be an issue. Hopefully not.

good point but I never really use the GPS nor APRS feature. I used to use it in my old truck, but not anymore.

I'm planning to get the same radio and want the main unit installed someplace out of the way (ideally under driver or passenger seat) while having the faceplate held by a Ram Mount X-Grip (mounted to a Tough Track) just above the head unit. Quick question: are the settings stored in the face plate? I ask because I would rather leave the faceplate hidden and unmounted until I intend to use it.

Settings are saved whether powered or not...including no power source at all (like disconnecting the car battery) so you should be fine.

How has the radio worked in the sunglass holder location? I really like that location, and I don't really care about the gps in the radio (at least I don't think I do). I only use the radio for trail comms during trail runs with other rigs.

I’m so glad I use that space. No regrets. Makes a clean install, no cluttery look.

Yeah, that spot just begs for something useful to be out there! There are no sunglasses that actually fit there.

Curious though, does the gps work?
