Realizing this is not a one-time use expense, these'll surely do the trick:

Lineman's pliers would crush alot, assuming you had the hand strength, and a hacksaw would make a decent. but not totally clean cut, especially on the insulation. If it's gonna get stripped back a bit, then that's moot. Do ya have an air saw?

thanks i was thinking cuttoff wheel was my best bet

The high rpm's will deform the very ends of the very soft cable. You said clean, so was being particular, otherwise I'd use it, too.

Use Linemans Sidecutters....30 bucks(Kleins) at Lowes. You don't need muscle especially if they are new. Is the #2 stranded, insulated or not? If not, get some tie-wire and twist it up just down from your cut and go for it. If insulated just cut it wherever you want the insulation will keep it clean as long as your a****** cutters or lineman pliers are in good shape.

i used my 4 1/2" angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and it was so clean the cable looks like solid copper until you strip the housing

Nice. I'm a lineman so that's why I made the suggestion. Why so precise?

i had to make it fit it in an inline fuse that had very little room to play, causing it to frey very easily.

i just finished setting up my 1000w power inverter... very nice!

Seems I overthought that one.............
Nothing to see here, move along.

wrapping tape around the wire before you cut can make it neater too.

I am also curious how it would cut if I laid the wire across a stump and hit it with an axe....

I struck out already, not gona get a response outta me.....nope......not me!

I say it'll crush as well as cut.
