I bought my 2004 landy a little less than a year ago with 108k for 17k. I found it on Craig's list 250 miles away. I went up the next day and had a pre purchase inspection at the local Toyota dealership. Found a bit of maintenance that need to be done which I used to negotiate price. The good thing was that it was a Florida truck that had spent its life in a garage and picking up groceries. The owners didn't budge on the price when I tried to negotiate so I walked. It popped up on Craigslist 3 weeks later for $18.500. I called back and offered them 16500 (it needed a steering rack). They told me they already had an offer for 17k. I said no sweat let me know if the buyer flakes. They did, and almost two months of back and forth negotiations I bought my first 100 series. Long story I know, but if you see a good one go for it.

Thanks for the feedback/stories everyone! Really appreciate it. It all helps. The market is an unforgiving temptress and somewhat unnerving to confront alone. I'd never even heard of CarGurus.com. I'll let you know how it goes!
