How about a "Beta Discount" for field testing ;).

You need 2 beta testers right? :D

Sorry, I live in Massachusetts. :D

Parts on the tool box are still 'in play'.... when you can't remember where you left it, then you worry.

These could be made close to bolt on, maybe some drilling and a few cuts to slot out the stock bracket.

I like the way it all looks and it surely should be functional for a wide range of adjustment. I'm a little lost as to why you need the lower brackets from the mini when you have added all that metal to box it in anyway. It seems like you just need to add some elongated holes and weld in a another piece that supports the force of the cam washers and bolts or have I missed something?

Short answer - no, you are not missing anything. They are not really needed as all those parts could be fabber.

Long answer - They are not really needed as all those parts could be fabbed. However, the first time I did this mod a couple years back, the stuff was just sitting there in the driveway. It was cut off an 86 4-Runner IFS to make room for an FZJ80 solid axle swap. I suppose it saves some time.... the slot is perfect, the distance between the 2 slides that cam rides in is perfect, and the thickness of the two pieces added to the stock bracket makes it almost wide enough for the bolt. At the least, they offer a good source of measurements if one plans to fab it.

Good points, I hadn't thought of all of those things. Thanks

I love it out there. A very good friend that I met in college lives out there. Has lived out there all his life. First time I came into that hair pin turn I almost s*** myself. I'm out that way for work from time to time, we should get together and throw back a few.

Thanks for the comps!

The bumpstops are dropped 2.25" with some simple sections of 2.5" tubing. The stock 'cup' that the bump stop compresses into is a snug fit into the tubing, it was then welded to the upper part. A 3.5" bolt was then used to bolt the bumpstop back in, it reaches up to the stock welded in nut. I did a similar drop to the rear bumpers. The inner bumps also need to be dropped, pics available if you want to see them.

pardon the stupid question...why would one need inner bumpstops as well as spring bumpstops...wouldn't the "lowest" bumpstop win? either way, pics would be nice...looking to fab some up myself.

thanks!

bjowett,
So like are you actually going to wheel this truck? You know Paragon isn't that far away :D

Well I aint building to go to the mall. :D it will go offroad at least once a week, body damage a definet,... not sure if I'll make it down to Paragon, but it is possible. If any North East folk want to try some western Massachusetts or southern Vermont trails, there are some neat ones. You can check out Old Florida Road in the May issue of 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine, not real hard, but fast becoming a classic.... 10 minutes from my front door.

WHAT? NO MALL?

I thought Old Florida Road was closed, no?

You should talk to Stew, aka cruzer, about joining Yankee Toys, the local TLCA club up there. They are a great bunch of guys.

Still open, though the water crossing up top is under debate. The old bypass around it may be 'traded' by the state for the small section of land where the road has always been. The road is a legal right of way, been there since the 1800's. It could be put to rest quick and easy, but future negotiations with the state and tree humpers over other trails/land use would 'not be good'.

I know a few folks that are part of the Toys... never got around to joining.

Hey, I said before they are lying on my toolbox. We will fit them after Cruise Moab. However I can not see how the plates would work with Brian's setup. His is really a trick idea for those with the fab skills.

So Cruise Moab is over. How's the progress going on these? :D

Brian,

>> As soon as I can get it on an alignment rack, I should have some numbers. <<

I'm bringing this back to the top to see if you have had a chance to get it on the rack. This mod is very promising for those of us contemplating J-springs but keeping the stock arms.

I am also wondering if you've had a chance to wheel with this mod and can you give us any feedback on the pros and cons.

Hmmm, guess I missed this one.... sorry...

I have not yet placed the piggy on a rack.... maybe next week I'll get off my ass and do it.

....Have wheeled, no cons have appeared... the usual pros apply.

Brian,
How did you dial in the initial caster setting if you didn't put it on an alignment rack?
