Additional Storage

After seeing a recent post, where they were cutting into the rear tail gate got me thinking. Has anyone cut in an access panel and used this for storage? Im thinking either using some type of marine cover that locks down, or possibly something like an electrical breaker box that is gutted then mounted flush with the tail gate. Trying to think outside the box. Maybe its been done and i havent search with the correct keywords.

Look over in the 60 forum - some guy was building and selling kits for just that.
I've thought about it, but it's far down on my list.

And yes he "claims" to be working on 80 tailgates but those pesky 60 owners keep gumming up the works. In the thread he also discussed making side panel kits as well but I wouldnt hold my breath

Man, i should venture out more, thats is almost exactly what i was thinking. Ill have to see what i have laying around the garage this weekend. For about $50 you can buy nice fiberglass covers for boats.
