Hey Guys,
I have a Cargo Craft 6'x12' utility trailer that has a ramp in the back and a side door on the passenger side of the trailer. I mainly work out of this trailer, keeping tools and equipment inside and looking for some added security and would love to add the convince of a remote powered lock on the side door. Thus far I have LED light strips in the trailer powered from a 10Ah battery, with solar panel and charge controller.
As far as the alarm, I plan to use a cheaper Pyle alarm and will use truck/hood pins to protect the side door and ramp. But the side door I’d like to add in a power lock that can be locked/unlocked when the alarm is armed or disarmed just like a car. Right now it’s a pain to have to pull my keys out and unlock the lock and throw the locking latch every time I need in the trailer.
I have looked around online and found direct replacement handles that have keyless entry but the price tag is too high. I’ve looked at universal powered actuators but not sure if those could be incorporated into the paddle style lock handle with deadbolt. I did take it out and saw it was riveted where the locking cam is located. I could drill those rivets out and bolt it back together but before doing that I’m hoping someone has some experience working with these paddle style latches and can share some guidance.
So my questions are, 1. Can the locking cam be accessed with the adjustment bar from a universal powered actuator? 2. Will the actuator have enough force to disengage the locking cam in a paddle style lock? 3. Any tips and advice would be great on working with either the stock paddle latch or even sourcing another solution. I found this 12v door lock online, 12V Electronic Door Lock Rfid Access Control for Cabinet Drawer and might be able to use it but would require more work and fabricating then the stock paddle latch.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be given!
Steven
