ok all have a 1987 fj looking to swap in a 1988 tbi 350 wondering what adapters are out there that can be used with minimal mods. Looking now at the advance torque splitter. Also wondering what everyones personal experiences are with what they have done with this conversion, after all if im doing it it has to be done right. And yes I've exhausted the search function and my brain just looking for a little more real world info

thanks all

Advanced adaptors has anything you will need. I put a Corvette TPI engine in my sixty with an old turbo 400 to my stock transfer case. They had everthing I needed

The adapter that requires the least mods is the Marks adapter. It costs a little more than the AA adapter, but it's almost plug an play. Only mod you need to do is cut out the old motor mounts and weld new ones in, otherwise everything just bolts right up.

Ditto on what greg said. We just did a V8 conversion this weekend using the Mark's Adapter kit and that's basically how it went. I do have one grip about the Mark's though, small grip, but still a bump in the road in terms of progess, the motor mounts. Or should I say the driver side motor mount. It appears that when shipping to the U.S. for a LEFT SIDE drive, the Mark's kit motor mounts didn't take into consideration this fact. We had to cut and notch out the driver side motor mount to clear the steering box on the frame. Looking at it, if it were a right side drive, plenty of room. Maybe my 60 was unique and this isn't a problem normally, but on mine it sure was. Other than that, it was pretty easy and quick. All that's left is connecting everything and cleaning up the engine bay. Price wasn't too bad either, Cruiseroutfitters got me the kit for around $998. I would definately recommend it if you are willing to keep your manual 4-speed (I have an overdrive so I kept it) since it keeps all the angles and drive lines the same so you don't need to spend cash there. The V8 sure went in a lot quicker than that 2F came out!

I bought my Marks from AA, and so ended up using their mounts (Marks weren't available through them). Don't recall any fitment problems, although I did have to shave them down a bit (which was expected).

FJKai - could you post some pics of the Marks mounts? I'm curious how they differ from AA.

Greg,

We're still finishing up the conversion, but when we're done, all see if I can get a decent pic of the motor mounts. They are pretty sweet, but they have been "modified" to actually work and clear everything, so they don't look the same anymore. I'm not quite sure what type of V8's they are using these mounts on down under, but they sure didn't fit right out of the box. Luckily for me, the person doing the conversion is a seasoned cruiserhead/ mechanic/ builder/ restoration guy. Some modifications were needed to make them work "right". You'll see in the pics to come.

I've got the torque splitter overdrive unit. I'm still fighting clutch trouble so it's "on the fly" shifting is not working real well. But other wise seems to be working well. My biggest regret is not putting the 700R in there instead. Seems like you're getting close to a 5-speed manual or a good auto at the price tag for the Ranger unit.

I had a little trouble with the AA motor mounts fitting as well. I needed to cut down the motor side to clear the stock Chevy exhaust manifold and I ended up shaving the bolts for the steering gear and welding the bolts in under the motor mount. Gear goes in and out fine.

I have a bunch of pictures of stuff. Feel free to PM me or E~mail dobrothcw AT hotmail DOT com if you need anything else.

Ive got a 700r4 also with the motor and whatever transfercase I just figure it would be easier to keep the toy tranny and besides i love the manaul just cant afford a nv4500 like i want. Also I think that the boss might be footing the bill for this swap

thanks all

I have the whole set up from bellhousing through the ranger OD unit if you're interested. I could part with the tranny/t-case if you need that as well.

I PMed you.
