Ouch! That's a pretty good scratch.

Yeah, my friend said there were some "trails" back there, but really it was a muddy fire road with a 15 degree slope.

Yeah, there used to be a few trails back there. You could get there from duraleigh road. That was my test ride area. I was back there one night about 15 yrs ago in my 40 and was in 2wd laughing at a jeep that had to get into 4 lo and I backed my 40 into Crabtree creek through some tall grass. Burned out my warn winch motor, broke a 100 foot cable on my buddy's 20k winch, finally found a tow truck to pick me up with 2 12k winches. Ask me how glad I was to have been wearing flip flops. Good thing I don't go to dollar night anymore and decide to hit a trail.

Ebenezer Church Road Raleigh. Why...

Just curious. Sorry to hear about the damage!

Remember everyone, only go off-roading on legal trails. Not doing so gives the entire 4x4 community a bad name, which feeds the groups that work to get rid of our beloved trail systems. I don't know if this trail is legal or not, but make sure to keep that in mind.

It was legal, as it was just a fire road, although probably not for much longer as they build more and more homes in the area.

Looking at how new the silt fence is, the fresh gravel in the sediment trap, and the excelsior matting used to stabilize that ditch, I'd say that it's private property owned by some development company about to start turing it into a neighborhood...

I second the comments previously made by Johnny... unless you know the owner of the property, there is no such thing as a "fire road" that is public domain.

I can see what you mean, I'll be more cautious next time and make sure it's not private property.
