Trying to chase down a possible issue with water getting my amp wet. See thread HERE.

I'm planning on pulling the driver's seat to get to the amp. Space is pretty limited where I'm at so I want to make sure I won't run into any surprises when doing this.

My main question is, can I just tilt the seat back once unbolted (think just resting it on the back seats to get to the amp) or do I need to take the entire seat out of the cabin? I'm assuming it's fairly heavy.

Here's the procedure that I've gathered so far from my research. Let me know if this isn't accurate or if I'm missing anything. Thanks.

  1. Pull off the seat track covers (flat head screw driver will do the job nicely).
  2. Undo the 4 corner bolts
  3. Disconnect the power plugs (there will be 2; a white plug and a yellow plug). Some people recommend disconnecting the battery before this to avoid any potential misfire of the airbag.
  4. The seat can either be removed now (carefully - the metal tracks are sharp and will damage anything they come into with); alternatively you can actually push the seat over on the back part of the bracket (so that the backrest of the seat is lying on your rear seat). This will allow you to get most of the access you need.

If I see water getting through I might install some sort of barrier between the amp/floor. Any recommendations on what to use that will last?

I’ve had that seat out a couple times in my audio journey.
The process is
Move seat forward, take out rear bolts
Move seat backward, take out front bolts.
Disconnect battery negative
Wait 10 min
tilt back and disconnect the yellow and white plugs. The yellow is the explosives.
Protect the steering wheel- it’s a tight fit and the seat will score the leather while scraping by, usually when putting it back though it could happen either way
Remove the seat
It sits on its own fine, but you’ll want to have a place to sit it down. A table is ideal so you don’t have to clean it off the ground.
Do your audio deeds. It’s fine to rebook the battery if necessary to test stuff, just unhook before reinstall.
You can stop the incessant beeping by pushing in the round black button in the door latch area, or wedging something into it.

Yes you can reach some stuff with thr seet tipped back, but it’s limited.

If you are removing the amp you’ll need to cut the carpet back into a flap shape. I just use floss and sew it back down so the slap won’t catch as the seat moves forward and back.

Here’s some inspiration from v1 of the upgrade, v2 used a dsp and is a bit neater
