Should the chain thingy that connects to the long accelerator linkage coming out of the firewall hang somewhat slack? Or is it supposed to be completely taut?

I am taking some of the parts of the linkage apart to clean/inspect.
(Every now and then I have to pull the gas pedal up with my toe to get it to idle around 650 instead of 800-ish). When i put it back together, I noticed it has some play in it - but I didn't recall how it looked before.

Chain? There isn't anything like a chain on the oem linkage. which part are you talking about?

If your pedal isn't returning, make sure you have both return springs in good repair. One is inside the cab attached to the pedal arm and the other is connected to the carb throttle shaft.

The "chain" is probably part of an aftermarket cruise control. There is no "Chain" in the stock linkage.

Yep, you are both right - it has an aftermarket cruise control. The chain is attached to the part #78104 above. I never use the CC. Therefore it doesn't matter how the chain hangs. . . .

To hijack my own thread then:
I searched but didn't find anything to explain how to specifically adjust the choke cable - the butterfly is not closing all of the way when the choke is pulled out.

There is a tab that the conduit goes through on the backside of the carburetor. It is very very similar to a lawn mower. Lossen the screw, move the conduit and tighten the screw.

I adjut mine with the knob pulled all the way out on the dash and then adjust the conduit on the carburetor so the butterfly closes fully. Make sure you knob goes all the way in and the "CHOKE" light does not stay on when you are done.

D'Animal, thanks! I made the adjustment, was pretty easy. Butterfly valve now closes all the way.

But I had to adjust it such that the metal fitting on the end of the conduit was about halfway underneath the tab. Not sure if it should be clamped onto the black wire instead of the metal fitting.
