When I drive my BJ74 across rough ground I get bumped around and my foot pressure varies on the pedal.
Has anyone fitted a second or stronger spring for the accelerator?
Is there some way to moderate the pedal response?

I haven't fitted a stiffer spring but have a few little tricks I've learned over the years. When I'm not at work, I always drive barefoot which gives me greater throttle control and sensitivity. With work boots on, I jam my foot against the kickplate and kind of roll my ankle to slightly increase/decrease throttle. This is only on bumpy/rough terrain.

You could also try to find a throttle dampener at the junk yard.

Ps. I'm guessing my foot against the kickplate only works in rhd vehicles.

Throttle damper looks good.
I'm not sure exactly how/where I would fit it on the 13BT linkage.

45 years ago my dad defined that as "sewing machine foot" and squarely placed the blame on the operator.

I was the "operator" and he proved to be correct in that observation.

You could start by replacing all the springs on the throttle with new ones and see how that goes. The direct injection engines seem to be more sensitive to this than the indirect types. On my HJ61 I used the hand throttle on rough ground.

Yeah, hand throttle = good for slow/bumpy terrain. Chuck it in low range, adjust hand throttle and off you go.

cheers,
george.
