AC Service Recommendations in the Triangle

I would recommend getting a quote from the Lexus dealer first. Some of the weirdest services they do for cheaper than about any and AC seems to be a good one to try there first.

I am not sure I would trust it to anyone, but I also think Carbs are voodoo . . so . .

Just about any shop can handle an AC service. If you're going to open the system, make sure to have them flush the system, put a new dryer on, and vacuum-test before filling.

Or just buy a can and do it yourself..... You won't be able to vacuum test or flush the system, but I was able to keep a slightly leaky compressor limping along for 4 or 5 years with a quick annual freon boost.

I worked on my GX470 - added freon, swapped out a Relay . .did a bunch of crap to it. Spent probably $50 in freon over a couple months, etc. The cans said my pressure was correct, but I never a flushed.

I would drive this car to the airport when I was travelling a lot, and leave it at Lexus for an oil change as they were $18 if you brought your own oil and they would do a full service work up, etc.. They would also take me to the airport, pick me up, - - could get a service in for cheaper than parking at the airport . . . .

Anyhoo . .

I had to go, the AC wasn't great, so I asked them to look at it and give me a quote.

They did a flush/purge/whatever plus replaced the Relay ($50+) all for like $130. They told me the system was way over-pressure and it had other issued, needed to be cleaned, I can't remember . .

I wish I could still go to that place :) Some of the bills I see from people owning Lexus around here from Johsnon Lexus make my head spin.

Thanks guys, I'll call around and get a quote from Johnson and then an AC service place. For some reason I see A/C service as some kind of Voodoo that is easy to mess up so didn't want to leave it to Joe Shmo down at the local service station.

Definitely want to get the system looked at as it was recharged (apparently) right before I bought it in Fall '16 and isn't bad but seems to not be as strong as before. Hoping the compressor isn't going out.
