Quick introduction: I recently purchased the 1993 Troopie that was floating around from my friend Brett in CO a few weeks ago.

In an effort to improve some aspects of the truck I am working on getting the simple items back on track. The AC system is having some issues and I wanted to ask you guys your opinion. The PO spent a good amount of money having the system converter to R134 and that was just a year ago.

I was blowing a fuse when switching the AC on and tracked that down to a bad connection and have that repaired now. Next was to confirm the clutch functionality as it wasn't engaging when the AC system was energized. I checked that it functioned by putting direct power to it and it does. Next was to track power through the system. I have power at the switch, I have power at the terminal on the photo shown above but I have no power going back to the compressor so I assume it is the switch/valve. Terminal on the left shows 11.8V and on right is showing nothing.

Looking at the picture can someone help me with a part number and conclude I am on the right track. I have spent a lot of time on 40,60,80,100s but this is my first 70 series and I am working through several changes in the wiring from PO's.

TIA.

It looks like the pressure switch, there is also another at the unit in the truck.. From memory if there is insufficient pressure in the system it wont run. If you pull the plug and join the wires to bypass the switch it may allow the compressor to kick in...
Then you will know if its the switch or not enough gas...

Bypassed pressure switch and found it to be defective. Could loss in pressure cause compressor not to run. This system was just checked a year ago and found to be free of leaks.

If system pressure is low the compressor is prevented from cycling. A/C systems can leak at any time. Good a year ago is no guarantee.

Like any clutch it needs pressure to operate. Have the system checked and make sure there are enough pounds of refrigerant in it to engage the clutch. If not it won't engage.

Greg, I had the same problem, I was just lazy and direct wired a hot line hooked up to a toggle switch. I eventually replaced the switch, but left the toggle just in case;)

Do you have a "dual function" switch ( outer portion controls fan speed and inner portion controls temp. )?

Finally got around to replacing the pressure switch at the drier and now I get a significant draw when I go to switch the AC on, dims lights and all. Also blows fuse almost immediately. I disconnected compressor to confirm clutch coil wasn't an issue, still pulling strong amp draw.

Anyone got any ideas. I have the sanden factory ac switch.

trying to get prepared for summer here in charleston and need to get AC back up soon. TIA

Also trying to ID this part, see photo. I think it's the AC amplifier but the two wires through me off. Thoughts

So pulling the system farther apart I have been able to locate some issues. On the front right wiring loom there was a black/red and white/black that were not connected to anything and just sitting on the loom causing amp draw/short.

The question is what are these supposed to be connected to? I have reviewed several wiring diagrams with no help in pointing out what these would control.

Anyone have a photo of front left inner fender that might be able to help. 1993 HZJ75 with Cooltemp dealer/port installed AC. I have found most of the system components from high gate air.

Thanks.

No replies but all buttoned up. VSV had been removed and wires were causing short. Had to replace a few o rings, vacuum system and charge.
