I happened to come across an 1983 FJ60 today for 2300 USD. I dont have the money but thought I'd at least look it over to see what I might be missing out on. I pretty much know how much I'd pay for the truck but my question has to do more with the AC.

The engine runs fine at just under 200K. Everything seems to work for the most part. But.... when ever you hit the button for the AC the engine surges up to over 2000rpm and stays there the entire time the button is on.. then turned off the rpm drops back down to idle. WTF? Ive never come across this before. I'm pretty sure the rpm is supposed to go up some due to the compressor being on... so is there some sort of adjustment that can be made to bring the rpm back down to where it should be when the AC is turned on? :frown:

Check out this thread. I had the same problem and the adjustment took care of it.

Awesome!.... I think Im going to offer this dude 1000 bucks... its that ugly brown color... sorry but brown isnt one of my favorite colors... rear wheel wells are rusted out behind the rear pillar and back thru the rear 1/4's. Passenger doors on the passengers side are both kicked in at the bottom... front bumper is gone and front is dented... interior looks like a woverine lived in it.... I think 2300 is to much.... 1000 is more like it...

the guy tried to tell me it was a gas saving SUV.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

So I asked him, "Well what kind of mileage are you getting?"

He says, "It gets about 24mpg in town."

I almost lost it... but instead I just smiled and turned to the side and looked at my wife... I then told him are you sure it gets 24mpg? .. he said yeah... I said maybe if it were a diesel... I'm thinking maybe 10-14mpg at best. Then he tried to argue the fact and I told him Ive been into cruisers since the late 1980's and have owned more then my share of them.... that pretty much ended it... :) 24mpg... yeah right.

24 MPG? Does he mean at an idle falling from a cliff at 1000 feet per second?

I think you'd be better off with a jet engine on a school bus full of rocks if you wanted fuel economy. Some people.......

See if you can get a deal on it and then post some pics.
