....hey all, I really really need to get the AC going in my truck and need some custom hose\fitting work done to mate the Toyota stuff with the GM stuff. I found a shop on Oltorf and 1st street but that's WAY far from me (I live at 620 and Anderson Mill). Anybody know of a shop further north or toward the lake?

isnt there a Carlies Auto air on McNeil

I would give NAPA a call. They had a banner out in front of the store advertising their hose making capability. Don't know if that includes AC hoses, but I don't see why not. The closest one to us (I also live on Anderson Mill/620) is the north Lamar store.

Can't find the Charlies (at least online) but I did find a place on N Lamar called Atlas Auto Air. I may give them a try.......or Napa. Or hell, just drive my ass down south.

bleh, you're telling me.....I already did two summers in this truck without AC.....I've got to get this solved. If anybody thinks of any other place let me know. I'm going to be making some phone calls and maybe a couple visits at lunch.

I CAN NOT DRIVE MY 60 ANYMORE W/O AC HERE IN AUSTIN.

Anybody have recommendations to good/solid/fair mechanics who can diagnose my AC unit? Don't have a clue if it needs a recharge or if it's more serious.

The vents blow, AC idle up works, but no cold air ...ever.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

AC Authority up in RR (near Frontera)

Owner's name is Robert. He recently replaced my compressor as well as rebuilt one AC hose (cant remember which)...

I used this guy too.

Does solid work and reasonable...he is kind of strange dude, but he should be able to fix you up. He fixed the A/C on my 60 a few months back...works awesome now.

Thanks patride. I've called him to set up an appt. Can you message me what you got done? Does he charge with R12?

I needed a rebuilt compressor as mine was pretty much shot.

He can charge with R12 or R134 if you have had a conversion.

Just wanted to say I went to mr freeze and I felt he was more than fair in getting my AC back in working order. Luckily, dryer, compressor, & amplifier were all good after 11yrs of not working. David converted my system to r134, charged up the system, and tightened my AC belt. Feel like I'm driving a new car! Thanks for the advice guys.

Awesome...glad it worked out!

Just curious as to the $ for Mr Freeze magic. Looking at a 62 with the compressor out in it and am wondering what it might take to replace the compressor and charge the system.

Hey Kelly
I think it cost me around $500 IIRC to rebuild mine. Honestly, I have no idea if that is a good deal or not as I did not shop it around. I had that done in the winter. It has paid for itself already with this summer. I rarely turn it higher than the 2nd setting (there are 4 settings). Again, he is a quirky guy, but he did a nice job and is very thorough.
Cheers,
Pat

Thanks Pat. This gives me an idea of my bargaining position if I chose to move forward.

Pat, to be clear, didn't he install an "as new" rebuilt compressor? He didn't rebuild your old AC compressor, did he?
