AC Help Please

My AC button has never done anything. I decided to jump the compressor clutch straight from the battery just out of curiosity and it clicked. The compressor turned and made noise (slight grinding). I plugged it back it with intent of finding the missing link between the switch and the compressor clutch. I tried the switch again and wahoo, the compressor clicked on!! No cold air though

Where to go next?? The idle races up and down when the ac is on and it doesn't blow cold.

I was thinking,

- Buy the $20 R134a conversion kit from Napa and change out the seals.
- Have a friend check it for leaks and fill with R134a
- Get on the Mud forums and ask about the racing idle. Hope for a cheap solution . Ideas please

Just had mine completely charged with less than 2 cans of CFC-12a & it blew 21 degrees (about 85 out at the time). Had all the O-rings & gaskets changed 1st.
