Ac and the blower just quit. Removed the variable switch and voltage was present. Is there another fuse between the switch and the blower?

Did you check the main A/C fuse itself?

If you're referring to the 10amp fuse located with all the other fuses, yes I did, in fact I doubled checked by removing the A\C switch testing for voltage presence and there was. The way it stopped functioning really seamed like a blow fuse, but! Please tell me that there is another fuse hidden somewhere else!!!
Thanks Mr Zartman.

If you lose speeds it is the resistor- held in with a couple screws in the passengers area. You could check and see if that crapped out. I got a couple from ENS who had them on the shelf. I lost speed 3 (med hi) and 4 (hi) which sucked in southern arizona...

Thanks Rick_d but the blower motor simply stopped completely. There's something between the blower motor switch and the blower motor preventing voltage pass. There's 24v on the switch but none through to the motor.

The motor gets constant power... the switch works on the ground side.

Check your relays, check your circuit breaker, check your blower resistor.

BJ74owner:

You can keep ripping things apart, and testing, or you can listen to what Rick is telling you, and test the resistor. :flipoff2:
IMHO there is a 95% probability that it is your problem. Those things are perhaps the most Mickey Mouse component used on a 'Cruiser. As they fail, you loose individual speeds on the fan, but normally all the speeds don't go all at once. And if all the resistors go, you are normally left with one speed = 100%

Perhaps the plug has wiggled loose? First thing I would be doing is looking at the resistor and it's associated plugs.. And then probing that with your tester..

BTW, did you do a search for info before starting this thread?
I did one, and found 11 threads in the 70's tech section alone.:bang: This one even has pictures!

Be warned, the resistor pack is tucked down in there. IIRC, you don't have to remove anything to get to it, but you have to find it first..

Hope that helps!

Jim

I can't tell if you are being humorous or chastising however perhaps you overlooked a couple of items on "BJ74OWNER's thread...........

Chances are that on your first post ( when ever that was) you were not an expert at navigating this Forum either so cut the guy some slack.:)

...if it is the resistor, part number is 87138-90K01 for 24v one...

In the strange but true category...I've had my fan not come on a couple times in the last year. Then, next time I start the truck it's ok. I had lost my low speed and replaced the coil/resistor setup a few years back. All connections are good. Because it's been working for a good stretch now I've not delved into it.

When you do figure it out, post what it was.

What sort of conditions do you 4x4 in , very dusty?
2 other fan stopping reasons I've seen are
The fan motor is so full of dirt and crap the actual fan motor struggles to get it's initial rotation , this is fixed by a kick to the fan with steel cap work boots on . Note after about the 10th kick if no luck the boot will normally go through the plastic and expose the fan then snot will fall on the floor .

If you high pressure hose the inside of you cruiser out after muddy or dusty wheelin the fan motors tend to get rusty and seize up and die

I deserved some bitch slapping from Jim cos I should have searched more on this great healthy forum but I'm a lazy SOB.
Still, Thanks Rick/Jim, the resistor tested fine.

What could halt both the blower and the A\C at the same time, but not the rear blower?

You deserve to have at least a dozen post before we treat you like dog poo.:D

Where can I locate the low pressure switch? Could it be that it is causing all this?

Just to clear the air, I WAS trying to be somewhat humerous :o

Being a cynical, sarcastic, old fart, sometimes my humour tends to be a little dry, and get's taken the wrong way..

If I offended anybody....well:whoops:

:hillbilly:

When things start to go goofy in a vehicle electrical circuit, trying to chase it down without a schematic is tough..
Unfortunately, I don't have one - otherwise I would post it up.

John said that the switch works on the ground side of the blower motor - perhaps you have a bad ground connection from those controls?
That's just a thought, I'd really want a schematic before I would dig further..
And grounding issues are some of the hardest to troubleshoot and permanently fix.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Jim
