I've had this issue for some time now and finally decided to do something about it. At the end of most slow stops, my brakes (feels like front) will quickly get soft and then all of the sudden sort of grab and pull right. It seems to be worse on softer terrain and going down slopes. It's relatively manageable but slowly becoming very annoying. The ABS light has never come on, but I had a hunch it might have something to do with it, so I pulled the ABS fuse and the problem stopped. Fluid levels are fine, and the issue was unaffected by a bleeding in the proper order.
My question is, could this simply be the ABS sensor (right front I assume)? From what I could research on here that seems to be the trend. Is there any better way of diagnosing it short of pulling the wire to each sensor individually? I'm a relative noob when it comes to ABS systems, so any help is appreciated. I understand that to buy OEM/new you must buy the sensor and the wire, which would come close to surpassing the realistic value of this truck, but I'm wondering if I could just get a hold of used sensor and throw it in there to see if that will do the trick. I've also heard cleaning the sensors can help, but I feel that with this kind of issue it's a bit more involved than that. Just trying to keep the rust bucket moving for a couple more winters.
Truck is a 96 FZJ80.
