the valley, yeah that one
After catching my headliner and passenger seat on fire last month (welding rain gutters:doh:) I decided it was time for new seats- and stockers just don't cut it in traffic...

So, I went to my local wreckers today and found some new front seats from a 2002 Volvo V60. The color seems to match the gray pretty well, and when I go pick them up tomorrow (they were still in the car) I'll be able to start figuring out the best way to mount them. They weren't cheap, but they weren't all that expensive either- $260 out the door, which is more than I wanted to spend, but they sure do feel good so far.

As far as I can tell, they are full power and may have heaters too (perfect for those frigid 60 degree Socal winters :D ), It also looks like there is only one plug, so powering hopefully won't be too bad either.

I'll post pics when I have them cleaned up later tomorrow...

Nice score! Doesn't seem to high compared to the $500+ seats.

I just tried to put a 1990 4runner seat in my 60 tonight and the bracket is not the same. The 4 runner seat front and rear mounting are a couple inches wider then the stock 60 mounting.

Came across this thread when I searched for seats. Don't want to jack the thread here, but if anyone else is considering replacing their seats, you may try and find some from an 87-89 T-Bird, especially the Turbo-coupe. The fabric holds up real well, and they have every adjustment imaginable. -Plus lots of bolstering. They also unbolt from their frame which makes them easy to mount. jm$.02

yeah, I looked at lots of threads here on different seat options and decided that I wanted to be VERY comfy- some fab work to get them in doesn't really bother me too much, so we'll see...

I'll definitely post pics and a general write up as I go.

cheers.

Mummm I used to drive a 04 V70 best seats I ever sat in!

please post your progress I would be really interested in how this works out! I might have to find me some Volvo seats!

OK, so I picked them up today and they look like they'll take some definite fab work to get them in right, but I'm up for it. The mounts are wide and flat, so I'll need to make risers at least in the rear. I'll also have to figure out some other small issues, so...

I'm almost certain they have heaters too :D

I got the power wires figured out and they move nice and smooth, but I still have yet to test what I think are the seat heaters (small gauge 18-ish? wires that go into the upholstery at the back of the seats- the lumbar is mechanical), but I'll get to it after they're mounted.

Also, the color is almost exact to the stock dark gray on the sides of my stockers- pretty stoked here.

My wife took the camera, so you'll all have to wait for photos until at least tomorrow.

cheers.

oh yeah, one thing- should I run relays to the seats or would a fused power wire be good enough? I can't see those little motors drawing too much power so...

I'm not visualising this without pics. Must...... have.....visual..... input...:D
Sounds nice and comfy though!

Fused power is fine unless there is a switch that you're protecting. When I put seat heaters in my stock seats (with new foam and upholstry) I used a relay because I wanted to power the heaters only if the ignition was on. I didn't want to run the heaters directly off of an ignition tap though. So the ignition tap powers the relay and the power to the seats is just a fused wire where the flow is controlled by the relay.

TTIWWOPs!!!!:flipoff2::flipoff2:

OK, so here's some photos so far:

first up, near perfect match for color to the stock interior- looks even closer in person.

red and black are power/ground wires; purple is an switched 12v (only moves when ignition is on?), and from what I can tell so far, the orange and blue wires are for the seat heaters.

looking good and I haven't even cleaned them yet!!!

driver's side- more wires, but basically the same setup if/when I take out the memory computer

and another shot of them from the side

stay tuned for some install shots as I get going on them.

cheers

Those look awesome! Are they comfortable???

you have no idea! I almost melted first time I sat in them at the yard. Once I get them in and driven around a bit, I'll know for sure. As for now, they're really nice- I even sat on one seat while figuring out the wiring on the other :D

nice seats man, but you realy need to evict your non shop related crap out of your junk room and make it a small shop or just put a pool table in. the seat do look sweet though.

Haha! I'm an artist, so I share space between truck stuff, art aupplies and paint, and wood tools to make stretcher bars...and I'm a garage slob on top of it all...oh well.

as to the seats, I started the first mock-up stuff today- boy are these seats BIG! I'm going to remove the rear heater (Haven't used it once since I bought it) and possibly move my amplifier as well so that I can make room to mount the seats a little lower than these pics show. It really looks like the actual mounting won't be as bad as I thought it would be.

I need to take out the heater and maybe the amp because they interfere with the motors on the seats (there are three or four of them).

even up high and on blocks of wood to help place it, the seat felt perfect!

I'll get to making mounts and removing stuff probably on Monday sometime, enjoy the pics!
