i was checking under my truck for worn out parts and i found that the front output from my t-case can move around easily  . its not the ujoint but the actual piece that goes into the transfer case. i can move it in any direction a good bit.

What is wrong with it? What do i do to fix it?

when i put my truck into drive it will kinda clunk into gear making the truck move some. is this related?

thanks

I also have the clunk...it's real bad going into reverse and not as bad for drive...I think it's just wear that occurs in most cruisers. Had my cruiser mechanic look at it, and he couldn't find any problems that could be causing it...I'm not worrying about it

The slop in the tcase front output shaft sounds like a bearing has failed. Unfortunately I think you have to do the entire tcase to change the front bearing. Not a huge deal and its a good way to get intimate with your gears :)

The shift clunk on the FJ62s is a worn output shaft in the tranny. Not good. Do a search for the McNamera (sp?) gear from Australia.

I am not sure who else is supplying the long splined gear for the output shaft in North America, however I know Dan at 4wheelauto in Edmonton is. http://www.4wheelauto.com

I looked on the site, and could not find it. I know it is not the McNamara gear, but is made in Japan.

If that's the case, then I got ripped off on my tranny rebuild three years ago 'cause I've got the reverse clunk too. Is it possible they wouldn't replace the output shaft during a rebuild?
