There is a plastic skinny funnel you can get at advanced auto or napa. it has a super skinny opening that fits into the fill tube perfectly. There is also a combo funnle that is like 3 funnles in 1 thst sldo works really well.

I had the exact same problem with my 1989 FJ62 about 3 weeks ago and the awesome people over at the 3FE yahoo group suggested I first do a tranny service, then follow the passive "Rodney Flush", refilling the tranny with synthetic atf, and my trannys is shifting smooth and trouble free now. There was about 3-4 gallons of old crap atf and some air in there that is now replaced with fresh sweet synthetic and she loves it.

Good luck!

Just wanted to update folks that after doing the passive "Rodney Flush" (did not go synthetic) the tranny seems to be running just fine. Thanks Bigbertha.

Great that it is working better for you now. Just remember, you flushed out a lot of the built up gunk but probably not all of it. Should the tranny seem to go back to its old ways before you think it should, drop the tranny pan again and recheck the filter screen as it could be clogging up with the newly loosened up crud.
