Ladies, Gents.

Seems my 40 has developed a squeaking noise in or around the transmission. It's intermittent but getting worse. It happens most when braking/low revs/idleing in neutral. Will stop as I accelerate or increase revs above idle. Is very audible inside cab, cant hear it from the outside right of the truck. Is very loud when you stick your head under the left hand door. Slightly audible under the hood on the left hand side of the engine, much quieter on the right. Moving gear stick has no effect. Moving Transfer stick has no effect. Is louder under car than in cab.

Engine is a H model.
Gearbox is 4 Speed.
Drained and replaced transfer, engine and gearbox oil all in the last week.

Any ideas as to the cause?

Use a piece of tubing, garden hose, or ?, and place it up to your ear. While under your 40 start moving the other end of the tube around the transmission and other places. The closer the end of the tube gets to the source of the squeak the louder you'll hear it through the tube.
