I want to change/update the wheels/tires on my '99 LX, but I have been unable to find any wheels, other than the newer factory ones, that I like. As such, I am now trying to determine what size tire to go on the wheels.

This is my daily driver for business, and as a practical matter, I don't feel I have the option of lifting it. With that being said, since the stock size on the new 18" factory wheels is 285/60-18, do any of you know why a 305/55-18 would not work? (I want to get as much width as I can, but I don't want to have to deal with rubbing issues.......Height of the two tires is almost identical, but the 305 should be a bit wider)

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions???

315/75R16 does rub a little bit to the inside wheelwell at max flex. I am almost 100% certain 305/55R18 would be OK.

You could try www.jaos.com

I'm not a big fan of their cosmetic stuff, but they make wheels for the LC.

It is not that easy to compare tires on a 18" wheel with a tire on a 16" wheel. Just because a 305/70/16 fits the stock wheel, does not mean a 305/55/18 is going to work.

A 305 tire is about 12" wide, if you try to fit that on a 8" wheel with only a 55 sidewall, it might not work as well. The sidewall is really narrow and you might end up bowing the tread part. Look at what the manufacturer specs for wheels. You will find that the 305/55/18 probably needs to be mounted on a 9" or 10" wide wheel.

Christo is right. I only think about width and diameter. You definetly need wider wheels due to the shorter stiffer sidewall.

sorry christo i just looked at the past posts and seen you have 325/65/18 nitto's will those fit on a stock set up of the lx?

what would you recommend for a good fit or would getting different rims help? i really thought the rims were 9 inch and not 8s. most of the off roading we do is beach stuff and mud very little in rock stuff so the flexing is not really that important or by the way how are the sliders coming along for the lx?

sorry forgot another question about your lx; from the pictures of your arb sahara bumper it seems your rig has a nicer fit with the bumper and all from another site some one had the bumper installed put it seems longer from nose to the wheel well and just looked bigger if that sounds right? Also if you have time once you put on the rear bumper what is the weight it can support on my old jeep i had a motorcycle carrier which attached directly to the factory trailer hitch the tongue weight on that one was 450lb so i was way under the max my bike was abouth 350 max thanks

Sliders are the same for the LX as 100 series, except only 2 legs. I just have to draw them up and then make them.

As for tires, kinda problematic on a 18" wheel. BFG is coming out with a 285/65/18 I believe. That should not be to wide and still give you the height you want.

Sahara bar on the LX470 is different from all the other bars.

The receiver in the bumper will not be rated for towing since we do not have a way to do it. I am pretty sure the strength is there, but I never liked hanging that much weight on a lever on the back of the receiver. It is one thing to tow a trailer with that toung weight, but another to put a unsuported platform on a big lever back there. Even though the bike might only weigh 350lbs, the lever action on the receiver is a lot.

Get a new motorcycle. The new GAS GAS 300cc trials bike weighs only 152lb and the Adam Raga model is even less. Besides, when you are out four wheeling and the road stops or becomes impassable, the trials bike can continue up anything! http://www.gasgas.com/Pages/2004's/Raga-Replica-04.html
