That’s been my theory. Same guy that painted the core supports is the same guy that painted the dashes. Kim, Lee from the frame department’s brother from another mother. It was done that way at the factory.
I’ve owned five, ‘69-‘76, all with original paint when I bought them. Don’t remember any of them with white behind the grille. It's Fact?? Enlinghten us @OGBeno![]()

Yes, I remember those!I've been tied up with domestic duties lately and haven't done much. I did take the front doors off and tried a crushed dry ice and isopropyl alcohol mixture to try to get the Dynamat Extreme off. It was very interesting, it seemed to either work incredibly well or not at all. Very little rhyme or reason as far as I could tell but large areas would just sheet off using a scraper and other areas wouldn't budge with a hammer and scraper. I think I will just remove the remainder with a scraper and call it a day.
While the doors were off I saw that each door has a plate underneath (see photos) that I had never noticed before. Toyota calls that a Front (or Rear) Door Weatherstrip Holder. My front passenger one is corroded beyond use but the other three are in pretty good shape. Just one more thing to chase down at some point.

Famous last words...On the bright side, this is the last thing I am doing before lifting the body off the frame.
The tape is easy. Scrape what you can with a gasket scraper and then use Goo Gone and a green scrub pad. Wipe with towels periodically. Use a plastic scraper if you want to minimize paint damage. Is there a secret for getting that tape off?
Would you recommend it if you were planning on never removing it?Dynamat Extreme inside the door was the issue.

I have a Milwaukee heat gun. It works good on bitumen materials, not so much on synthetics.HEAT. Hair dryer
