Well all the rain recently has driven me from outside projects back into the shop. I talked to a plating company in Memphis that Cam recommended and have started sorting yellow from silver (with quite a bit of "I can't tell but hopefully they can"). It's daunting trying to keep up with everything, especially bolts but I'm trying to stay organized with lots of photos. I will take these parts with me and drop them off when I pick up the engine in the next few weeks.

Here is an example of the brake and clutch tubes, junctions, brackets, etc. efforts. I decided to lay everything out under the frame and label every part that was listed on the parts diagram. I won't bother to post all the photos but if anyone needs a photo of a specific brake part in the future, I'm your man (for a '77 anyway which I think means '76 through '79).

So, are you plating the old lines or making up new ones then having them plated? New hoses, right.
I have all new hoses except for one. Can't remember if it's the clutch hose or the brake hose connecting the rear line to the front. I'm pretty sure I found another hose that will work in it's place but can't remember the details off hand.

I am going to try replating all the old lines. About the only rust on these lines is on the fittings; otherwise they seem to be in good condition. Of course I can't see inside them so I could be totally wrong. I am convinced however that the fuel lines are in excellent condition so I was excited to find a plating guy that has tanks large enough to accommodate those lines yet small enough to deal with me. He said they do brake and fuel lines often for people doing restoration work.

Given that they have a minimum order for each color, it really isn't costing me anything to have the brake lines done. If they don't turn out well then I can always revert to plan B and make new ones.
 
I'm slowly going through all my bin trays and pulling items for either silver or yellow zinc plating. Many things (e.g. gas pedal assembly) have to be taken apart before they can go to plating. I'm taking lots of photos and labeling the bags holding the items left behind but still apprehensive about finding a home for everything once it's plated. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Here's a photo of all the brake line unions and ways (Toyota term). Hard to see from the photo but they all look like they were plated yellow (which would probably have meant cadmium back in the day). I have thrown them all in the yellow box but thought I would ask if there are other opinions amongst the Sty. All the brake and fuel lines will be plated silver (or clear or blue or whatever it's actually called - clear I think).

The proportioning valve which is bolted to the brake booster doesn't seem to have been plated although it's pretty grimy so hard to tell exactly. I pulled the plug and quickly decided the guts should stay right where they are and put the plug back in. I think I will just throw it into some mild degreaser and see what happens. FWIW, the repos that City Racer sells appear to be painted black.

Any parts like that bits and pieces, door guts, gears, etc. of mine I had cadmium plated. The cad. isn't as "pretty", but holds up better over time, or so I was told. I'm not sure what Toyota did for plating.
Thanks. From what I have read, it was mostly Cadmium back in the day. I'm too lazy to find a place that does Cadmium but I also haven't asked the place that I plan on taking the parts.
 
Not sure what they used to be but I just did a bunch of bits and pieces for my FJ60 yellow zinc and they look awesome. Makes me want to do everything yellow zinc! LOL
 
Finally found my point of diminishing returns yesterday. Ran across the coil assembly and decided to take it apart to replate the plated parts. The main bracket was easy enough to take off. The other assembly (ignitor??) was a bit more tricky to take apart. It has a plated housing with a non plated top. Had to pry up 4 tabs and carefully pull the top off. Once I saw that desoldering was required to get the electronics out of the housing I quit and put it back together.

That would be nice but I still see a few things that will have to go backwards first.......but the pile is definitely getting smaller!
 
The part number for the ignitor above is 89620-60012. Of course it's NLA as I assume the other's listed below are as well. Mine was working when removed but in poking around the internet I found one repair tech thread on Mud. I'm an engineer but not this flavor so most of the thread's contents is Greek to me. Linking just for posterity though:
