The 60 smog pump has been squalling at high RMP's for a while and I finally decide to dig into the problem.

Whatever demented mind engineered this piece of crap should be doomed to swimming in burning lakes of lava for eternity. Then they should be hung by their testicles for another eternity. I wish I could think of a few more tortures, these just don't seem adequate.

After fighting half the day just trying to get the moronic spring clamps off the hoses and the belt off the pulley I realized there isn't really any way I can get the pump out after I undo the bolts.

It appears that the air pump was installed before the engine was dropped into the bay. Unless I remove the PS pump and everything else above the air pump I don't see any way to get it out.:mad:

I'm going to see if I can remove the inner fender well and get it out that way tomorrow.

Sorry I just needed to vent my spleen.

I hate it when they do that crap.

That Isuzu I had was the same way. In order to get the alternator out, I had to remove 1/2 the front of the engine. Once I got it out, I decided I was only 10 bolts away from the water pump and timing belt replacement so I went ahead and did that while I was there.

No sooner did I get all the little things fixed and I sold the stupid thing.

What a waste of time and money on my part....

I KNOW that feeling my brother!
EXACTLY how I felt about the exhaust routing on the 4 runner. Julie has seen me mad TWO TIMES in 11 years together...BOTH were in that week I was doing the HG repair.

Finally got the lower (long) bolt out, with the help of my trusty $10 Harbor Freight die grinder. The bolt is about .25 inches to long to clear the fan shroud, after fighting it for an hour I notched the shroud. Take that b%^&%:flipoff2:

After removing the air intake and radiator overflow you can just squeeze the pump out by flexing the PS lines.

I disassembled the pump in about 45 minutes. Could have gone faster but I took a buttload of pictures. First so I had a record for re-assembly, second because I couldn't find a good write up on it anywhere.

Nothing in the post about Blood, broken bones, broken tools...this could have been the start of a great County n Western song. :meh:

After I finished I drove my pick-up to the train station to get my Momma who just got out of prison.

Better?:flipoff2:

Did you run over your dog on the way? Did anybody die, or your sister/wife leave you for another man with more money?

LOL, I can hear it now....

I ordered the replacement bearings today, Motion Industries over on Spice Island can get all of them except one. That one seems to be made of unobtainium, The NSK N America Distributor told me it had and OEM note in his Data base which means it is only sold to OEM's. Nice way to make sure you have a captive market huh, designing in a part no one else can buy? The guy at Motion Industries tried to cross it based on measurement with no luck. I'm hoping that I can re-use the old one, it's the one opposite the belt side so not much force on it.

Oh yeah, the best CW lyric ever;
"She got the Gold Mine and I got the shaft."

Update

Got the bearings, installed them and got the air pump back in.
It was just as much fun to install as it was to take out.

I drove the 60 to work the past few day and it looks like the problems is solved. :bounce:

The blush is off that rose, I'm trying to be like locrwln. I just haven't got the selling my old love part down yet.

People who live in glass houses......:flipoff2:

Youve gotta consider the actual WORK time involved in comparing the two of us as well...

Im just sayin!

:flipoff2:

Well...the Toyota engineers that designed your piece must still be at it! I was looking over the PM list for Sandy's '07 RAV4 and came across this little factoid I hope to never experience: In order to replace the water pump...yes the water pump...the entire engine (V6) needs to be pulled.

Crazy.

"Oh what a feeling...Toyota"

The good news is the engine weighs what 50#?

Just have Chicago come over and lift it out for you.
