Okay, so I didn't spend my Saturday driving to Moab or cruising on the Outerbanks but I did get to spend it with a great couple of knuckleheads.

THANKS to Raphael (Roxx) and Brad (lowtops) to the mini-HAMOM rebuilding the knuckles on my 40 today.

Here are a few of photos.

Good deal David.

That front pinion is looking kinda suspect (oily). Is that pinion seal slingin' oil?

 R

Great cruiser experience there, no?

Did you guys use the knuckle centering tool or just count the shims and reinstall as you found them?

Ramon - We were so focused on the knuckle rebuilds we didn't check over anything else. I've got several leaks that eventually need to be addressed. Perhaps at the next trail ride someone can help me prioritize future maintenance/repairs.

Glad u had a good time!

Meatball - As Brad and Rafael were "in their element" I stayed out of their way, tried to keep from asking too many questions and was the DPW (Designated Parts Washer).

Jason - We took the easy route. Having seen other posts on knuckle rebuilds and not wanting to "do the math" we wisely labeled the shims during the tear down and were able to reinstall them.

Glad you got it done.

Thanks for your help/advice along the way. I went with Kurt and Cruiser Outfitters for the knuckle rebuild kit (including Timken wheel bearings) but had to search around for the Marlin Crawler inner axel Ecoseals as most everyone was sold out. Lucky for me, Slee Offroad had one pair sitting around they were happy to sell me.

I hope you were the designated beer getter also :grinpimp:

Sorry I couldn't make it was at work all day till 5 then spent the remainder of the night building a pallet strong enough to hold a mercedes diesel engine on it ........ 1st two got crushed.... and then trying to center it on it.... that was the hard part

Obviously you made it home, so we did something right. :)

Al, you had the most important job. We enjoyed the beer you brought.

:doh:Al, I'm embarrased to admit we drank the IPA you brought Brad on Friday night. I was going to pick some up when I ran to get lunch but Brad's wife was kind enough to grab WhatABurger for all of us. I plan to buy beer for Raphael and Brad at the next "meetings" at Mac's they attend.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. Was the best thing I could find at the gas station I filled up at before heading over there.
Sarnacs, line up of beer is really starting to grow on me.... if only their pumpkin ale was more widely available during the fall season.

Brad let me know when you need the hoist back.... worked great getting the engine crated up.
Didn't work soo great unloading it in the dark by myself friday night and having one of the legs come down and knock me in the head......... if there were cartoon birds flying around my head afterwards it would have reflected how I felt

Got 2 pairs sitting here right now.

Nice garage setup! one day............. I hope

My version of a man cave. I "let" the :princess: park in there though.

No rush. I will PM you to check your schedule and we can work something out. I hate for you to drive all the way back up here. I have cracked my skull on that thing several times. It happens to the best of us. :D
