Good eye, that picture was taken very shortly after the lift was installed. The springs have since settled resulting in a much better shackle angle.

Building my own winch bumper. I started with 1/4" by 6" flat stock off of the frame horns and then continued with 1/4" by 4".

I then added an 8" plate to the front keeping it up to allow an angle at the bottom edge. I used more 6" to close in the underside but leaving gaps front and rear to allow for drainage of water and mud.

I angled the rest of the underneath and added braces as well as tying into the unused bolt holes on the secondary frame horns. I used 2"x2" square tubing to fill the space on the top side of the primary frame horns and began working on the winch mounting.

At this point I made templates out of poster board and took everything over to a fabricator I know to have the pieces cut and all the final welds done.

Keep in mind up until this point I had done everything myself. I have zero previous welding / fabricating experience and did this all with a grinder, chop saw and a 1962 Comet arc welder I had purchased at a garage sale for $50. I may not be able to run a decent bead with it but it works well enough to tack things together
well done BJ , one of the better home made / designed bars I have seen on this site. Once its painted up it will look sweet !Just goes to show that basic tools and positive attitude can do wonders

After Cleaning up the welds I started work on mounting the fog lights and roller fair lead. I had a friend at work cut me these D-ring shackles out of 1/2" plate

Here is a look at the underside (half moon cut for winch drain plug) and the backside. You can see this bumper is built heavy and if I was to do it again I would use 3/16" and 1/8" steel in most places to cut down the weight.

I got lucky and came across a factory Toyota Aisin 1000 winch.
I sandblasted the housing and gave it a gun metal grey paint job. I also cleaned up the motor and solenoid box and painted them gloss black.
I did not get the remote with the winch, so I purchased a warn remote with plug connector and wired it up. Only a slight modification to the plastic top of the solenoid box was required to make it fit

The completed bumper and winch!!! I am very happy with the final product. It just goes to show even with no experience you can get great results, if you are willing to put the time and effort in.

Thanks for the compliment. I believe the winch is rated at 8000lb but I have also seen contradicting information suggesting it is 10 000lb?? I don't know the line speed, but it's fast!! Unfortunately I forgot to take pics of the winch when I had it apart
