Just found out that there was a recall on my '91 80. This is a USA recall and may not apply to non USA cars or other years. toy usa told me that recalls were VIN specific. Recall on the 1991 fj80 is: AC expansion valve – Recall #: P01. I was checking on the recalls for my 60 and decided to just ask if there were any on the 80… I called: 800-331-4331 (Mon - Fri, 5:00 am - 6:00 pm PT) found at: http://www.toyota.com/about/contact/index.html?s_van=GM_TN_ABOUT_CONTACT (toyota usa) . if you do not know whether this or other recall items have been repaired on your car, they are happy to help. they need your VIN to check what recalls apply to your car and to see if PO had them done already.

the part replacement must be done by a toyota dealer. I am going to look into this a little further because replacement of this part will require a recharge of the AC system which means that they will have to evacuate and make sure that it will hold pressure before recharging. waiting for return call from service manager... rep said they would fix it.

Has anyone had this done? And if so, did they try to sneak in a few extra parts that (being a dealer) they had to charge for? i am going to sell this vehicle so having a cold AC will definitely help... extra expense to get it a little colder prolly can not be recovered.

I talked to my Stealer last year and they said they would have to have it in for a "look" to see what was going on. Charge me of course for the service visit. I told them to f#*k off and never had it done. I guess their stratagy worked. Mine still works fine.

This recall is for the expansion valve. They replace the valve & o-rings, and if it needs the tube on the valve they replace that as well. Not all cars need the tube, so this is why they have to "look" & see
