Hi, I am a newbie and looking at an LX470. Year 2000. It has 110k miles. Dealer asking 15k for it. It is in good condition inside and out. Everything is functional. But it does NOT have the 90k service done for the timing belt.

I am guessing if I have to do the timing belt and water pump it should be about 1000-1500 for parts and labor. I feel 15k would be very top dollar for it. If it had timing belt done then it would be fair deal. But without timing belt I feel it is really the very top end.

So Is $15k a fair price for this LX or should I keep looking?

No not a Lexus dealer. Yes pulled the history based on which I came to know that the 90k is not done.

North east. ACH is operational.

I am ok with LC too. I also think 15k is way too high with no 90k.

I agree that 15k is high for that year model, even with the relatively low mileage. My guess is that if the timing belt service is 20k past due, the PO probably didn't stay on top of the maintenance very well either.

Folks Appreciate if someone can point me to any good deal / solid LC or LX in the north east region either private or dealer if u come across something. My first preference has always been a 99 LC with locking diff and rear AC but I have recently started to appreciate the 2000+ for their 4 stronger front diff set up. With stronger front diff and a future after market rear diff I could possibly have a nice set up with best of both (locking and ATRAC).

Yes, I am a noob but have been doing some research on 100 series :))

Bottom line it's going to be either LC or LX 1999 or above. Budget is 13k tops. I need to get one urgently. Thanks for any help or pointers.

"I need to get one urgently"
Not to be facetious, but is it life or death? That's urgent, all else is baloney. Watch out, if you want it bad you'll get it bad. You're getting a 15-year-old vehicle at the oldest. They are going to need repairs, and those repairs cost since they were the top of the line when new, and especially if you don't know how to do them. Find a vehicle which you really like, TRY to identify what it needs, buy it and fix those immediate, important things, and fix the rest as you go. Learn as you do. But, good luck, Ned

You can find an independant "Toyota certified Tech" shop that could do the timing belt/water pump combo for you for $500-$600. Like stated before though, that's like a $12.5k truck max and if they let the 90k maintenance go, what else did they leave unattended?

Only ruling out 98 LC due to lack of rear AC.

98 LX should be included as I understand they had rear AC even in 98.

Ah that totally makes sense, good thinking if that's important to you. It's my understanding as well that all LX's have rear ac.

Make them an offer with the 90k service thrown in.

See how far they'll negotiate and then if they don't work with you, walk.

120k service is right around the corner too.
