Hey folks,

Looking for some experienced advise on a 100 I'm looking at buying. This would be my first LC. It has 177k miles on it and runs and drives great. The known problems are as follows:

Passenger airbag does not work. Owner said there is a sensor or something that needs to be replaced in a panel inside the glove box and only costs $15 on eBay. Toyota dealer wants $1,500 to fix it. I am skeptical on this one.

The key remote doesn't work because it has to be reprogrammed to the computer and the owner had to replace the motors in the door before the key could be programmed. Any idea how much it costs to have keys programmed to vehicle?

Rear wiper doesn't work, not getting power. Known or common issue?

They are asking $7k for it, which is on higher side of available 98-99 models around me, but lowest miles.

I think you can easily find a 100 with no current issues. I'm at 160ish k miles and the only things I've had to fix were the ones I've broken. If the airbag fix is $15, give him $100 and tell him to fix it. Sounds to me like there's something going on with the electrical stuff...

That said, it's worth what it's worth to you.

RGR that. I see pics online of the sensor in the glove box that he claims needs replacing. Not sure how the dealer could justify $1,500 to fix that which leads me to believe there is something more going on.

Remote programming instructions as well as key transponder instructions can be found on the site.

As for the rear wiper, unless it's a connection or wiring problem, it's most likely the body ECU which has taken a dump. This could also explain why the door locks didn't work as it controls them, along with some other functions. Not saying that is the problem, but just something to be aware of!

As usual, check fuses and wiring, and if you can pull the lower trim piece in the hatch to check for any water ingress or disconnected plugs.

Cheers,

Rich

what does the carfax look like? how many owners? how does it ride? If everything else is good the truck might be a good deal. any link to the truck? you can pm if you want.

I would keep looking or low ball with issues.... I would worry about water damage or leaks with those items not working.
