Good price, but I believe that is for a double din. Elhefe, I haven't seen a single din kit for the LX. You may have some luck with a piece of black ABS plastic and trim it to fit the gap.

That is just the trim kit for the LX. Pick up any single din->double din installation kit(for LC or probably just generic), then use this trim piece on top of it to match the lines of the LX.

Precisely! The hard piece to find is the styled trim. I think a standard double DIN with single DIN + pocket should work nicely.

From what I've seen, I may still have to do this too. Once I get all the pieces together, I'll have to make an install thread. I haven't found one that goes through all the wiring and amp swap in detail. Have y'all seen one?

Good deal, post up what you come up with. I know some mud folks have installed a new amp versus using the old one. Seems like a lot of people use the OEM amp and address the low volume hiss, or just live with it. I haven't messed with the hissing noise on mine, it's not noticeable at low/medium volume and the system as a whole sounds great to me.

@RobRed has a great article that might help: http://tlcfaq.com/main/2012/05/land-cruiser-lx-470-stereo-wiring/

Yep. Studied that one! Excellent info.

With the tape deck on the fritz and the CD changer long gone, it is time for a new HU. We love listening to audio books, so BT/USB/Aux out are key.

I know you stated you want a single din possibly because you don't need nav, but there are a ton of double dins (non-nav) out there that work great for BT/BTAudio / Aux, Cd, etc on the cheap. Plus you wouldn't have deal with the single din fitting issue. I have a pioneer fh-x700bt that does it all that I paid around $100 for.

I considered the non-Nav double DIN, but I really like the pocket underneath the HU. I had a Pioneer DD Nav unit in my Maxima before I traded it in and it worked well for a long time, but I'd rather avoid the complexity of a touchscreen in the LX. I'm in the process of removing or disabling all of the more "luxurious" options (AHC, Naka HU, telescoping steering wheel).

That said, might change my mind! I'll keep everyone posted.

I got an Alpine PDX-5... one amp for all the speakers: I don't need a sub to shake the neighborhood, and that unit sits nicely under the passenger seat without having to remove the old one. The PDX-5 has been updated with a new model, but it's the same size. Great little unit.

CRC, how much did you pay for your unit, if you don't mind sharing?

About $300 for the amp.
About $500 for speakers & sub.
About $50 for speaker wire, power wires, connectors, etc.
About $450 for the head unit.
Took me a long time to install everything (2 full evenings after work)...Anyone with car stereo experience can work much faster than I can on these things.
