hey y'all I bought a used 1998 moonroof motor for my Land Cruiser and I thought it was easy as unbolting the existing motor replacing with the new one- I removed the bolts but I couldn't get it out it wouldn't budge like it was binded up somehow so now I'm not sure do I actually need to remove the whole headliner pull the whole sunroof out in order to just do the motor? Also there is a Denso Metal solenoid on the end of the unit perhaps I can just unbolt and bolt it onto the existing one which seems like a lot easier than removing anything else I would just have to get the front headliner down is that a potential fix? And lastly when I removed the solenoid from my newly purchased moonroof motor unit little pieces of metal came out they appear to be perhaps shaved off teeth or something see pics does this render my unit useless?
Well Jesus what a hassle!! I spent about 3 hours removing the headliner. The grab handles behind the front doors bolts stripped, so had to undo all the trim I could to persuade the headliner out. Undid all the bolts and attempted to remove the whole moonroof. I don't get it, there appears to be a bolt on the passenger side that comes in from the top that I could not access. The roof was low enough that I could prise out the motor finally but when I tried the other motor it would only click. Not really sure what to do next. I plan on going to dealer to buy clips that broke, and to see if they could advise how to get whole moonroof out. Advice appreciated!
The compatibility of these motors seems questionable. The motor 63260-60060 which is what the parts guy says appears to be identical to 471723-10040. The costs are 5-700$ for the 63260 and 50-100 for the 471723. Any reason we cannot just use the 471723 part? says it is for 2003 sequioa, 99-03 lexus rx300, 05 Tundra. But it looks identical
oh my god, where is aLL MY ADVICE PEOPLE!! I'm FEELING IGNORED *<] I plan on taking down the entire tray this weekend and see if I can get these cables moving- think they are stuck...
Has nobody touched the sun roof?
I haven't - never had a problem. Can't remember seeing any posts on this problem, mainly only leaks and tracks.
CO LC: Do you have the FSM? (It states that the headliner has to come down, as the 1st step; and that starts with seats/belts, quarter panels, A and B pillar panels, roof garnish...)
no I do not have the FSM. But mostly I am pretty curious about this stuff here : Headliner is out now.

I was told that most likely the Cables are stuck or seized. The motor only clicks even when it is not mounted but just plugged in. Even after I undid the battery terminal the motor would still only click. This is while the motor is hanging freely from the roof.
Cables are seized. Common issue. You'll need to purchase the whole new cassette and it will cost you $700 minimum. Spend some time searching the forum and you'll be able to find this info.
so checking today there is a plastic cable and a metal cable in the front and back of the little gold thing that the motor mounts to. The plastic white one seems to move freely, the metal one seems to be stuck.
