There seems to be a lot for the 99, and not much of anything for the 98. Is there anything substantially different between the two? Mainly looking at the Thorley Headers...

Any help?

That slightly helps. I mainly want to know if the 99 and 98 100's are substantially different. Aftermarket parts are slim to come by for the 98, and a lot is listed for the 99. Should the 99 parts fit a 98? I am mainly concerned with the DT headers fitting a 98 as a DT rep said they only are made for a 99+. Make more sense?

The DT headers will fit all MY 100's except 06-07 which had VVTI.

Anything that will fit a 1999 will fit a 1998. A lot of companies are unsure when the 80/100 phased in/out. So 1999 is the surefire way for internet companies that don't know much about 100's.

Only difference I know of is 99 had rear AC option...

Mine is called a 98 but the build date in the door jam is 7/98 and it DOES HAVE rear air ...

OP, where are you finding aftermarket for '99, but not '98? Also, where are you located? Do some reading here before jumping into headers. May not be the same bang for buck you're used to on Honda's, plus some emissions complications, depending on location...

The following is a direct quote from a Thorley rep. Anyone have a 98 with their headers or anyone can vouch for the validity of this?

"The motors are the same, the chassis has some slight differences and that changes the placement of alot of different components, like the starter, steering column, etc... Our headers were designed for the next design style up, those slight changes throw the placement of the header off and have it in the way of some of the other components."

I live in South Dakota, we have no worries with emissions. Headers on a V8 are a much larger price but also a larger gain than most 4 cylinders yield over a header on a stock motor. While I am most familiar with Hondas when it comes to hands on, I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to a broad spectrum vehicles and motors. I don't plan on a lot of work for the cruiser, but full exhaust will absolutely allow it to breath and maybe an intake and call it a day. It is my winter and ski truck, so I just would like better flow, sound and power. If it gets me better MPG as well, then great.

I have seen the dyno thread. They net a substantial gain in power. My only concern is now the fitment on a 98 given what DT said. Anyone with a 98 with the headers installed?

Can anyone take a picture of their headers installed from the top and bottom so I can see if there is this difference they are claiming..

I'm going to assume there is no difference... I think DT just has it mislabeled. Funny you posted this, I've been wondering how people have been buying the DT cat back, because I was finding nothing searching for a '98. I then noticed that it IS on their site, just only listed for '99-'05. I can't think of any reason the cat back or headers would not work on a '98. I have to say, I think the info they gave you that they quoted, is a misconception within DT... Never heard of anything like that anywhere else. Maybe I'm wrong though...

They were very adamant about saying there is a difference though, which confuses me why Toyota would change such obsolete things in one year. Kind of why I want pics of a 99 so I can see if it is true.

Did rear ac become standard on all 100s/Lx470s after 99?
