I have read thru many of the LC E-locker swaps into non-locked LC/LX. Every one that I read thru swapped the entire axle.
There are a few complete E-locker pumpkins that are drop-in ready. As far as I'm aware there are no differences in the
98/99 LC and LX axles aside from the locker option, correct? Considering dropping one into my 99 LX

I know @hoser would know ;)

Ha! The locked and non-locked axle housings are nearly the same. The locked housing is notched out a bit so the differential assembly with e-locker can slide in. The fastening studs might be slightly different (some longer). Might have to relocate some too.

Also, one axle shaft is different… the splines are longer for the e-locker to work.

The 80 series is very similar and there should be plenty of write-ups.

It's super easy to just grind the notch in...that's what I did. The donor axle was a rusty POS and mine was clean. So the only effective difference is the third member itself and the short side axle shaft as @hoser mentioned.

Sounds like cake! I guess the only potential issue would be sourcing a used right side axle shaft that is from a locked LC.
Most of the only parters just list them without knowing.

I have a '99 rusty crusty rear end waiting to go into my 2000. I'm also just going to grind the notch in my housing.

There goes one...
