got some new bilstein shocks from my 98 4runner... what tool do I need to get to be able the compress the springs in the front, I have the FSM but what are my options instead of buying the sst?

I think you want the other forum section, for '96+ trucks.

youd need a spring compressor. i didnt bother using one on my 98. just layed the strut down, stepped on the spring part, impacted and the strut shot out the other side. didnt go flying half way across the shop...just shot out a foot or 2. but if its a home job, rent a spring compressor

you can remove the entire shock assembly. make sure you use a spring compressor so you don't get hurt by just taking the nut off the top of the spring.
