97 LX450 CARB legal cats price check

Hi all like the title says i wanted to see if anyone has had both cats replaced in a carb legal state. I just installed a turbo and found out that my clogged cats are causing me to produce zero boost under load, which has been tested by disconnecting the exhaust in front of said cats.

A well known local shop wants $1800 to weld in the front and rear CARB approved universal cats, checking magnaflow both cats should be ~$913 (447206/447106) so install is ~900? does that sound crazy?

I was in a similar situation awhile back. Depending on the condition of your Y-pipe, you may consider just doing the CARB compliant Magnaflow 1 piece Y-pipe and 1st cat, followed by the CARB compliant bolt on Magnaflow 2nd cat. This set-up will run around $1400 total, but you get new y-pipe and it's all bolt on, no welding was required assuming you have a standard mid-muffler behind the second cat. I've been happy with the new Magnaflow exhaust so far, seems to flow well. Recommend doing new O2 sensors and exhaust hangers while you are at it.
