I likely did this. I am trying to remove the rotor / parking brake drum on a 97 FZJ80. When I started the rotor turned but would not come off. I used 2 m8x1.25 bolts in the removel holes and proceeded to remove the drum. I did realize the shoes were hung up on the drum. I believe I have distorted the shoe in the drum. I tried pushing the rotor back in and now it is hung up and will not rotate.
If I remove the 4 bolts holding the backing plate onto the axle will the brake mechanism come off the point where I can get to the shoes?
If not what other alternatives are there to get to the shoes to release them?
(I hate it when I am the culpret!)

at that point your best to just force off the rotor since you dont know why it was hung up in the first place. there could have been a rust lip that was catching the shoes, the hold down spring pins could be a little bent and allowing the shoes to make contact with the drum.

Did you unwind the adjuster first?

I think it's time to "yanky my wanky". I can't recall what movie that line is from but pull that drum/rotor off with vengeance. I doubt you'll hurt anything because the brake shoes are massively strong. If the shoes are cattywampus, the star adjuster doohickey may not be able to release tension. Be sure to take a video with commentary
