Hey all...I've begun my serious search for an 80...it seems harder than ever to find one in decent shape, and under average mileage.

I did happen to find one across the state. a 97, white with the light (white?) leather interior...I'm not specifically shopping on color though. 192K miles...looks gorgeous inside/out.

I'm wondering as I search, where should I place more emphasis? I really would like a fully locked rig...this one is not.

Would you all place more emphasis on finding one factory locked vs miles on the ODO and condition? Or is it better to find a completely, or relatively, unmolested 80 with low miles in sweet condition, and add aftermarket lockers later?

Anyone added lockers front/back? Does it work like the factory units with the center lock as well? Or totally different beast? (better/worse/same?)

Thanks all...you guys rock...almost have my wife convinced that 190K miles is NOTHING.

Just to give an idea of condition....Thanks guys...have read many threads on "this vs that" regarding the lockers...I figure the photos are worth something though...

Personally, I'd try to find one with lockers. Comparing prices of locked and non- locked 80's, I've not seen any discernible difference between the two. Otherwise, you're looking at $3K-ish to get a pair of ARBs or Harrops in there. I don't think you'd have a very easy time finding factory locked chunks for sale, but I haven't looked, and you'd still need to sort the wiring, ECU and axle fitment issues, too.

If you've read this vs. that threads on lockers, I won't bore you with the details regarding actuation speed between OEM and aftermarket.

Nice looking rig; I wish mine was that color, if nothing more than to lower the interior temps.

So hard to stay patient and find one under 200K miles in great shape with lockers...and under $10K. :)

There's been more than a few pop up on KSL over here in the Utah for under $6K. I picked up my tripled locked '95 with 208K for less than $5K. :)

That makes me happy.

Found KSL. wasn't familiar with the site. Am now. Thanks! Makes me wonder how many like it are out there though???

I'm not convinced paying a premium for OEM lockers is worth it.

If you find one that is low miles and unlocked I would take that in a heart beat over one that is high miles but locked.

Lockers can always be added.

And how many times do you actually see yourself using your lockers?

Are you going to do the Rubicon or Dusy anytime soon?

Are you rock crawling all of the time?

I'm not convinced OEM lockers are worth the wait or premium.

That just me as an 80 series owner for 15 yrs.

That's a gut check guy thing really. "Hey look I have this". Having every option. But yeah I hear you. Can always add ARB's in the future. Given the rig treats me right and doesn't cost me in repairs.

Found a dark green one in Seattle as well. $1000 less. 180k miles. Interior not as nicely kept. Do you guys know anyone in Spokane I can talk to? Possibly go for a ride/drive to get a feel for what they should be like? I hate jumping into things not being able to test drive many beforehand.

If you are looking as far as Seattle than this one may interest you. It doesn't say if it's locked or not so probably not but for the miles and condition (based on the pictures) it seems like a great deal. If I could afford a second one I would be all over it!

I am in Spokane, not sure what you are asking... Are you in Spokane and want to look at one before going to Seattle, if so you can come and check mine out. If you want me to drive from Spokane to Seattle to look at one for you (5.5hrs one way):steer:, FORGET IT!

I'm in Spokane. Wanting to ride or drive in one before going anywhere to look further. :). Better?

YES! No! I wouldn't do that to ANYONE!

Would love to look and take a ride. It isn't like a Dodge Dakota...I can't go drive and ride in 30 of them to find the best one...so I am dependent on the club here to show me what it should be like, and point out stuff I can see with a flashlight and mirror.

Thanks man! Let me know what works best for you!

Sam

Thought that was what you meant but wanted to make sure before I agreed to anything.
I would be happy to show you mine, its a 93 just turned 70k miles and has factory lockers in excellent shape. I live near Whitworth and I am available tonight and tomorrow night if that works for you give me a ring 509-822-0164 (Ryan).

I really don't know where I'm looking at this point. There is even a guy in Calgary, CN selling one north a bit...was a US vehicle, so no issue bringing back. Wants 9500 for a locked one. And on the club.

I'm having such a hard time locating, I'm wondering if I wouldn't go to AZ or SoCal for the right one. Take a kid with me...camp and wheel on the way back.
