I am pretty sure this will work, but I am traveling for work with nothing but time on my hands......

Wife has a 96 4runner with a 3.4 automatic with the factory locking rear diff in the rear axle.

I found a 96 t-100 with a 3.4 automatic with a open rear diff.

Both 4x4's

Are the gear ratios from the 4-runner to the t-100 the same? 4.10's?

Since she never uses the locker (unless I drive it in the winter), I want to swap diffs out. locker into the t100 and the open into the 4runner.

This should work right? Same Axles basically right (except for the width of the t100 and the coil mounting of the 4runner).

not just just find a cheap used locker and put in there and have them both locked up? it would be alot of work to swap all that around imo.

i got mine off ttora for 200 shipped used. its a lockrite and not the best thing ever but it works for what i need. once it bust i will just weld the rear end up. its probally just as strong if not stronger than the TRD but not as good as a detriot. look around and you can find some deals. plus i know the ring and pinion is different from standard to TRD rears but the entire 3rd member will probally swap. as far as gearing goes and all that i have no idea because i never got into T100s as they had stopped making them by time i got into rock crawling.

I had a T-100 and did some work on it and I dont think what you are talking about would work. Suggest contacting dealer but there are lockers out there for t-100. ARB WEB SIGHT IS SHOWING THEY HAVE A LOCKER FOR THIS VEH. IT WILL NOT BE CHEAP

I know I can get arb's, detroits, or even pull out my welder and spool it.

The option I have is that elocker in a daily driver that never gets used.

I will look into it when I get home and post if it can be done. A 4runner rear diff is 8.0 and I am guessing toyota didn't redesign the whole diff of the rear axle for the couple of years the T100 was actually on the market. This rear should be an 8.0 also which would mean swapping diffs should work.

Actually, from my research the diff in the T100 was actually unique, and built stronger than the 4Runner. 4Runner and Tacoma may be swappable, but T100 is different.

Found a good link, Erik's Toyota Differential info

Yikes. No, they are not interchangeable. The 4runner is the 8" ring gear with elocker, probably the 4.30 gear ratio. The t-100 is the open 8.4" ring gear, maybe in 4.10 depending on the axle code. Sorry to ruin the idea, just buy the wife something new and take the 4runner :D

Yeap looking at that site now, It won't work

Rats...

Oh well...
