Hey,

Just got my '96 Tacoma fired up today. Has the 2rz-fe engine. I installed a new fuel pump, sending unit, filter sock, inline filter, spark plugs and wires. It will not hold an idle, just dies if you let off the throttle. You have to feather the throttle to keep it running, and even if you are holding the throttle steady it will surge and buck a bit. If you rev it to @ 2,500 rpm it runs pretty smooth but it does miss a bit. It sat for 5 years with old nasty fuel in it, so I am thinking it could be injectors? Put some Seafoam and B12 fuel system cleaner in the tank to see if that will help, but I ran it for a while and no change.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Sounds like injecters, Once getting up to a higher RPM the other injectors are doing the work for the dead one, Same thing happened to my 80.

Ok, thanks for the reply. What was the fix for yours? New injectors? Is it possible to clean them out or?

You can try and clean them and see if it clears up, But to see if any injectors or bad and not just filled with crap get a volt meter and test the resistance in all of them. Don't know what they should be but they should be between so and so, Just look at your FSM if you have one and see what it is, On the 80 it was like 7-16 or something like that and my 6th injecter was at like 1 million so it was bad, But mine was caused due to a faulty coolant hose that was leaking on to it.

I just replaced the one injecter i didn't replace the others because they were still in good spec

Ok, I can get to the first 2 injectors, they both ohmed out at 13.5. All the spark plugs are wet with fuel, so I dont think any of the injectors are totally clogged.

I would think it would throw a code if it had a big vacuum leak. It threw 5 codes.
