My oil pressure gauge suddenly dropped to zero and not moving at all, I did located it with pic above, is there something wrong on the pic? I'm planning on replacing it with oem any hints or advice on tools and procedure? Thanks in advance.

Cant really tell if the wire is connected properly. Any better shots? should be a single wire connected to the top of the sender

Here's a closer pic, thanks.

The oil pressure sending unit is rusty and the contacts are probably dirty that's why your oil pressure gauge drop. Try to sand them down and clean the connector plugs with electronic/electrical plug cleaner. And if you have done that and still no pressure, replace the oil pressure sending unit with new OEM unit.

Yup it's all rusted and corroded , one of the wires has a nick and almost coming off.

Just gonna go ahead and replace the sending unit.

Also trying to save the end terminals that connects to the oil pressure sensor they are so corroded that it won't come off from the connections I have to end up cutting it.

The sensor is in the oil cooler on the US PS of the engine. Right behind the air conditioner compressor. In fact, that harness is usually tied to the A/C compressor.
It's been a while, but I think it's also behind the exhaust heat shields. A few months from now, I'll be putting all that stuff back together I hope... It's all spread around the shop right now.

The white wire is the ground, right? So that's why you did the scotch-lock (I think that's what we called those things)? It does seem odd that they would attach a ground to something that's in the engine block, also ground. Mr. T does some strange things indeed.

i did splice the 2 white wire and still the needle didn't move, i assume they join together inside that black plastic connector but i guess not , so ordered a new wiring harness instead.

Your photo looks like its seen some water in its life.

Be sure to use Dielectric Grease on the connection to prevent water from getting in there again.

Dielectric Grease is your friend. It will save many headaches like this one.

The new oem harness came in today... I was told there's only 2 available in the US , probably due to this parts are rarely replaced but who knows . So I got it installed and my oil pressure gauge is alive again. Some pics for future reference.

Part no. Of the harness w/c IMO connects to the windshield water bottle as the wires go there.

Thanks , hope it helps for anyone in the future.

Sorry, I came to this thread late. I had the exact same problem. 1 wire broke where it entered the connector. I did a :hillbilly: fix. Clamped on a generic spade connector and wrapped in elec. tape. looks like you went the correct route. How much was the harness? Cdan?

The harness was $86 and already discounted from my local dealer I did splice them but no work still, I wonder how did Toyota made those weird connections.... Somebody can chime in I guess.

To check the gauge and the harness you can ground the sender wire with the key on, engine off. The gauge should go to max. If not you have a gauge or wiring problem.
