SUMMIT CRUISERS
SILVER Star
Just thought I'd post this fix up.
We purchased a triple locked 94 about 9 months ago. It currently has about 265K. For the last 3 or 4 months I have been noticing a growl coming from the rear end when barely decelerating between 40 and 30mph. (Sounds like a set of old Mud Terrains that like to howl/growl going down the road.) I read a lot of posts about the pinion bearing and nut being loose/worn out so I have been waiting for a long weekend to tear into it. Ugh!
So I started out and removed the rear drive shaft. I then checked the joints for smooth movement and I immediately noticed that the u-joint on the rear was not operating smooth on one of the axis.
I then locked the CDL and drove around without the rear driveline and got smooth results.
Changed the u-joint and all is good. Sometimes you get lucky.
