Looking to buy it. Timing belt done/water pump. All service records. Excellent interior. 6.9k obo

Any thing I need to look at with this 3.0? Axles? Whatever. I am not at all familiar with these truck MINUS my Dad had one for three years with 0 issues MINUS front end crack/pops that were considered normal.

Advice?

Thanks

For that kind of money, you should be able to find a 95+ 4wd extended cab. Unless you NEED the long bed. Are you outgrowing the 92? The only issues I have heard of are the 3.0 headgaskets. THe 3.0 won't get the mileage of the 3.4 either.

They are great rigs overall, but that one is kinda spendy.

I think I could get it for less i.e. around 5500. It is a one owner in pretty much mint condition.

Yeah, the 92 is getting a bit small with two kidos. Too bad too because my 92 is pretty much mint too.

So, the 3.0's are the same as the Toyota PU 3.0's that had all of the head issues?

The long bed would be nice to have as well.

What kind of price do you think?

I have not had any of the 3.0's, but from what I read on the 2nd Gen 4Runner sites, the head gasket is definitely a PITA issue. Also, they always complain about the poor MPG and the lack of power. One guy mentions that the 3.0 seems to have less power than his 2.4L I4.

If you have kids, I'd get a 4Runner (keep your PU). For $6k, you can pick up a 96-97 3.4L V6 4x4, and maybe a rear locker, if you're lucky. :D

With two kids, the extended cab would be a great idea. I have three, and routinely put them back there. I will admit that the infant carrier doesn't fit so well, but any front facing seat will work great. It makes a great backup/camping rig that can fit the whole family.

The 3.0 is the exact same as the trucks/4runners, A quick autotrader search yielded several 95+ rigs in the 6-8k range, most with higher mileage. The mileage on that rig is its redeeming factor, so yes, I think 5500 is fair for it, but I would spring for a slightly higher mileage 95+ for the bigger motor and more room. Don't be afraid of the autoboxes on the extended cab rigs either; they have a rep for being very durable, plus the front seat is more comfy on an auto rig. FWIW, the 2.7 I4 has nearly the HP of the 3.0 V6. If you want the reg cab, I'd go with an I4 5 speed for durability and gas mileage.

The only issue that some have found is on the manual tranny, the clutch bracket sometimes separates from the firewall and needs to be re welded. Mine has not ever been welded and has 163k on it.

I have been looking at the T100's myself and I definetly noticed a difference in the new v-6 than the pre 95 ones. To me the older one is pretty doggy and I agree with the guy that has the 22re when he says he thinks it is more powereful. I just drove a 91 pickup with the old six and 235k, I also drove a 95 T100 with 255k, and a 98 T100 with 103k. The new trucks blew the old one away. My good pal has the 92 4-Runner with the old six and auto tranny and is down to 12 mpg and no balls to show for it. Not a bad price just a very pedestrian truck. I also just drove the tundra with the six and another with the 1st gen eight. I am going with the eight on saturday.

I too like the 2uz, but 20+ MPG on the freeway is hard to pass up....

That being said, I really wish I had the clamshell doors.

Thanks all. 4 Runner will not do. I need a truck i.e. bed. I have a Suburban for the rest of the stuff ( :

I might look into a 2.7 Taco extended cab. I had one in 96 (new) and the engine was plenty for what I need.

Thanks guys.

Juke

I'd get a Taco crew cab, the less mass would have the engine a little happier and the four opening doors....

might be a little narrower than a T but I think the doors would make up for it...Oh wait sorry NO BED  well 4ft anyway..

I miss my T,
