Good Morning. I purchase a 92 FJ80 with 179k on it. Nice. Tight. Nothing wrong, passed a thorough checkout prior to purchase with flying colors: observed as a well taken care of cruiser.
I am and above average home mechanic, I bought this beast for my wife. She digs them them so that's a plus when the inevitable happens..........like about 10 minutes ago when I got a call at the office.
When she got in the car to start it, she turned the key and it was dead. Dead as in electrically dead. No indicator lights. No nothing. Here's the kicker: The digital clock went dead too! It was as if the ground from the battery was disconnected.
After a couple of tries, the cruiser came to life as usual and started just fine.
This has happened a few times and I'll have to start digging into it to solve the problem.
My wife says opening and closing the door has something to do with bringing it back to life. I think this is coincindental but I present it anyway.....you never know
I have a theory that the factory alarm system is malfunctioning and some sort of "cut off" is temporarily engaging, preventing the car from being started.
I'd appreciate your thoughts on this problem and any info you can share.
FYI, the alternator and battery are fine.
Remember, whenever this happens, she turns the key to the "on" postion and gets NOTHING. Even the battery powered clock, which is always on, goes dead.
Have at it!
