Just finished a long running project.

Years ago my driveshaft fell off, and tore the speed sending unit wires. Replaced sending unit and wired in a new pigtail, wrong.

Imported a nice metric cluster from overseas since my OEM was nasty and cracked. Dropped it.

Yesterday I bought a 4runner sr5 cluster. This morning I swapped some parts over, made the correct KM to miles odometer change, and reinstalled after verifying id finally wired the sending unit right.

Now it's MPH!

More details (since Hilux search results usually hit this page)

Not all circuit boards are the same. Some have different options. The metric boards and the US boards are a bit different. I dropped the whole US board into my Hilux, it seemed to work. When I hit my hazard lights, all my gauges started jumping wildly.

So, I took the MPH speedometer from the board, and put it into the Metric board. It works fine now.

I probably won't convert mine. I do a mental conversion of the speeds to approx. MPH in my head and just assign them to each of the major (10) KPH markings on the speedo. Besides, it's not like I am a speed demon with an underpowered NA 3 liter diesel.

Awesome! I was wondering if that would work. At this point thought I have the math down!

(KPH/10) x 6 = MPH

This is thanks to a video I watched with Richard Hammond LOL
