He said he was going 35 when this happened. That's a frightening situation, it's great that everyone is ok. The image of that drive shaft gives me the shivers, I can only imagine what it would have been like going faster. It's a good thing everyone had their seat belts, and you didn't have anything heavy that would act as a projectile.

Thanks for all the help everyone, I have let my insurance know that I and several other people think it was a bad install and tomorrow they are gonna call and let me know if they want to do the investigation. if not i got a shop here in tuscaloosa that the owner has a couple of FJ40s, and 2 iron pigs, so i think i want him to do the tear down for me, i used him before for little stuff here and there and he is a legit guy, i found him on the Stickey section on this board.

The ship i got the ARB locker installed at is a very reputable offroad shop and this should have been a very basic install for them.

I thought about calling ARB customer service and telling them about it to see if they want to investigate the shop.(after my insurance lets me know what they want to do first)

And as for not having any heavy objects flying around... my roommate had a ipod radio doc in his lap... we found it half way through the rear driver-side window and my iphone was in my lap(inside its Otter Box) and my girls purse was thrown into the trunk.

Ill be sure to get any new pictures and info up as soon as i can.

Really everyone thanks a lot for all of your help, im glad to know it at least sounds like a improper locker issue.

I was the new kid in the shop, the worst I ever did was forgot to give them back the wheel lock...we did get a car where an a tech didn't screw down the oil filter all the way on an oil change, they refused to pay for a new motor for about 4 months...it only took a court case!

It sounds like you didn't have any loose tools in the back, that would be bad. I think if I that happened to me, I would tell everyone to duck if I wasn't in shock.

Gotta figure out what happened before you can throw stones.

Make sure whatever shop/ who ever takes the thing apart takes lots of pictures, 'cuz you're most likely gonna have a court case with the install shop - they're gonna say the ARB failed or the bolts failed or ... ? Get what I'm saying? Everyone is gonna blame the other guy, including you.

Good luck. Glad no one was hurt.

I would not get too far ahead of yourself...

Have the 3rd party shop do a complete tear down to find the cause....then ONLY after determining FOR SURE would I get insurance and others involved Right now all you are doing is speculating and if it was not the ARB installers fault you could prematurely ruin their reputation or cause a lot of problems.

There will be time for pointing fingers when your other shop diagnoses the problem....no matter if it is someone elses fault or yours or just something that happened....where Murphy reared his ugly head.

GOod luck.

Not to knock the shop, but there has been a few people on here that have had problems due to improper installs, and looked at everything else before finding out it was due to a screw up by the mechanic. Though I would guess it is something in the diff that locked up the third, and it is possible you broke an axle shaft/birf on the side that spins free.

I would definately have a third party take it apart and document it.

Glad everyone is OK!

I 100% agree.......Dont bash the shop until you are absolutely sure they were the cause of the problem.

Thinking about it, the twist on the driveshaft will tell you whether the diff or the transfer locked up, as it would twist in a different screw-pattern if lblocked front or back.
I bet it is the diff though.
Take a million pictures when disassembling yourself.

Yeah, any news?
Since you're in T-Town, you may also try to get in touch with Wabbit since he's there, He's EXTREMELY knowledgable about yotas and offroading, obviously.
