I have a 1991 FJ80 w/ 200k. It's been a great truck. It has recently lost all of it's power. It seams like the trans isn't shifting down (like it ius staying in 4th gear all the time). i know this is hell on my motor. Does anyone have a simular problem. It seamed to clear up for a while when I changed the tranny juice. Second problem The ring clip came off of the front passenger wheel, it sits under the dust cap and hold a shaft out. the shaft has a threaded hole in the center and teeth around. How do you get this dang thing back on. I can't figure how it ever came off. I saw that a few companies made a super charger for the 6 cylinder engine. does anyone have one, is it worth a flip or do I need to pursue changeing to the later 8 cylinder engine and can you do such a swap?

on the clip, you need ring-pliers, which you can get at autozone -- they're needle-nose looking -- the ring is available through toyota --

-- the superchargers are prob. for the 24V FZJ engine -- i would just be happy the 3FE engine's running well at 200K --

-- no clue on the trans., though i wouldn't be driving it like that, unless you live on a very big hill --

Clip

The clip is different than any ring clip I have ever seam it loock more like a lock washer. IOt goes on the outside like it is spread open and slid over the shaft then when release it clamps. i know on my old truck they use something like this but, this dang thing is super strong and I can't force it

It's called an outside snap ring. They have the flat nosed pliers to install it at Sears. You need to pull it to take the hub apart so they are an invaluable tool to have. The threaded hole is there to put a bolt in to pull on if the axle is too far in the housing to get the ring in the groove. If the ring is not in the groove it could pop out.

LOL, if you go somewhere and ask for "ring-pliers" as eric mentions, you'll likely be sold some kit that has every snap ring plier in it but not the kind you need. :princess:

Go to Sears and take like $15 +/- with you. In a pinch, you can use needle nose or 2 screwdrivers, but get the right tool for the job. If you need to drive the truck till you get this ring, stick a bolt in the end hole with a washer.

Dino,
on the tranny question have you adjsuted your kick down cable yet???
that would be the place to start and go from there into the funner stuff.
Dave
and since kunz hasnt been in lately 3FE POWA!!!!!

I have been in, just lurking :)

Spot on with the snap ring comments, that is the best approach. I have used all methods mentioned and a properly suited snap ring plier with the right approach will get the jobs done. I used a bolt to hold the axle out while snapping it on so as to prevent insanity from setting in on the 15th failure to set it properly.

3FE powa!
