Hello everyone!
First post, so I apologize if it’s long, and not in the right place. I bought a 91fj80 almost a year ago and I love it, my kids love getting taken to school in it, and I enjoy using it as an errand runner around town. It has been a love hate relationship with the original 3fe. When I bought it you could tell it was being held together with bandaids and bubble gum, but it held together none the less. last week it finally decided to kick the bucket, and I am unsure of what to do next. I fully intend to replace it with a 2UZ. That being said I am a little over my head in this as I have never done an engine swap. If I understand right, I need the OEM harness and ECM for the 2UZ and the A340F trans. As well as a stand alone harness to integrate them to the dash harness. But I am unsure of what will and will not work as well as what else I need to make this happen. Also what I should update while have the engine out. My other issue is I am located in Wisconsin, and I am very far away from any useful specialty shops, so it appears I am on my own. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Great idea!!! (shut up all you 3FE lovers) I think the 2UZ is the best (gasoline powered) V8 Toyota ever made.

Yes, you'll need the engine and transmission for an easy(er) swap, but you have a choice between the A343F in the 1st gen 100 series, or the A750F in the 2nd gen. I'd get the A750F if I could, because Toyota parts for the A343F are getting hard to find, and most have to come from Japan.

As an alternative, you can get the marine version, which is bare bones, doesn't use the ECM lockout garbage, and is a much simpler engine. Best of all possible worlds would be the marine version and a manual gearbox, then your electrical problems almost all go away.

Good luck either way! Maybe you can donate the 3FE to one of the 3FE fans!

I never thought amount the marine angle that’s a good out the box idea! I would like to stay with an automatic (I know manual is is always better) but out of convenience I want an automatic. I was going to also install the delta vs pro harness wiring kit, and dual battery set up to cut down on the old wiring.

I think you have the 1FZ shoved up so far in there, there is no hope...🤣
