In the middle of the swap now. Started its own thread.

I left off that there are at least three different V8 4R air box tops. Choose the one that best fits your installation.

Early models take a round MAF, have a lower profile, and support a ~90mm tube.

Mid models had a tube size change and support a ~95mm tube.

Later models (06+) have a higher profile top, MAF changed, and support the ~95mm tube.

I find the lid from the earliest model fits best, especially on trucks with mild lifts where the engine must be placed high.

Thanks @Zjohnsonua for the info. I am fixing to start on the plumbing for the power steering and A/C lines on mine. Do you know, (others please chime in if you know) have you found a "better" set of P/S hoses or A/C lines to start from, that have good bends or route pretty close right away? I know these will need to be custom-made, I just was needing to know if, say, a 100 series discharge hose comes out of the compressor with the necessary clearance already for the fitment by the frame. Or if A 1992 Tacoma 4 cylinder High pressure P/S line has most of the bends to make 90% of the line, with minimal building needed by a fabricator (hypothetical examples...lol). Thank you in advance! Forever grateful for the info shared here.

You can see the 3FE steering line here. Threads into the power steering pump but does eliminate the pressure idle up valve for the power steering. Reused the clamps too.

I am going to be asking some kinda dumb questions on parts compatability as some of you are way way more versed so here goes the 1st one.

In looking at my parts pile and trying to figure out what I need, is there any reason I can't use the PS reservior from the 1FZ with a home brew bracket on the 2UZ PS system?

Also will be starting a build thread one of these nights soon. thanks guys

Absolutely could. Will you be wheeling this truck? The stock resi leaves some to be desired with overflow volume. I went the route you're describing and am looking at making changes as the resi burps heated oil leaving the system low and noisy after a cool down.

Perfect found a few things in my dissasembly thats going to need to be done that I wasnt planing on so ever C note saved in new parts for right now is a good thing

Not going to wheel it hard, at least in my current plans but that can always change ;)

I get budgets, but a lot of stuff will be comparably unreasonable to access once the truck is together. Do Future-You a favor.

oh I am a do it once do it right or hey I am in here, kinda guy. Its just my do it right mindset is starting to shock my wallet, that and the cavity I went to get filled today ended up turning into a root canal so thats going to nip in to the do it right budget. lol

Thanks for your help and I am sure I will not be the last stupid question I ask lol.

Another parts compatibity question, as I have been through the parts digrams, I am in need of PS components, is the PS pump from a latter Tundra/Sequoia/GX/4r a viable alterntive to the 98- early 02 J100 for my application? Mech fan, also got lost in translation as well, I have run across a Tundra and Sequoia that a local guy is parting so I can get brakets and bolts and everything pretty easy.

Thanks guys

Oh and some progress was made this weekend, test fitting at least

PS pumps swap over. Watch out for the suction tube orientation. They vary, and some arent compatible with with others due to pump-side fitting size difference. The 4r/seq/tundra reseal kit is more affordable and generally easier to source.

Some differences in the mech fan operation, but theyre generally a wash. Theres enough part to part variation in kick-on temp that its a wash in what model you choose.

Thank you sir, It’s not leaky issue, it’s just pure lack of PS pump, my pile of parts didn’t include any ps stuff, the bracket is there, no pump no resi, no bolts. Hence my compatibility questions

I will owe you a case beer or a bottle of something good at the least by the time I get done with project, for your generosity with knowledge and wisdom!

Here is my thread that I am currently swapping a 2/3uz swap in my 60 on a 80 chassis. A couple of things.

  • I found a bolt in DBW pedal for the 60. It comes from a previa van. I got mine off ebay. I will see if I can find a PN#
  • I used GX470 egine mounts mostly because that's what I had. the frame side brackets were still available as of accouple of years ago. PN# 51401-35410 and PN#51402-35360
  • instead of a auto I went with a H151f and H1fa tcase. 100 series over seas came with a manual so I was able to get everything to bolt it up from Toyota. Here are those part numbers.
  • 31111-60311 Housing, Clutch
31011-60010 Housing Sub Assy Clutch, Front
    11361-50030 Cover, Flywheel Housing Under
31121-60050 Cover, Clutch Housing, No 1
    13405-50020 Flywheel, Sub Assy
    90910-02127 Bolt, Flywheel Set
    31210-0W032 Cover Assy, Clutch
    31250-0W031 Disc Assy, Clutch
    31230-60190 Bearing Assy, Clutch Release
    90363-15017 Bearing (For Input Shaft)
31204-60101 Fork Sub Assy, Clutch Release
    31232-60040 Clip, Release Bearing Hub
    31236-60060 Support, Release Fork

Oh interesting, the GX470 uses a different style insulator than the 100 series. I wonder what’s that about.

The pedal is a good find, Ryan. Post a pic when you get a minute.
